CoachT
I certainly don't want to open old wounds but I'm glad you guys have been able to put all of those bad times behind your program. 84 out for football sounds good. Good luck this year.

JCSPORTSBUD
DZ, Is there really a QB controversy or does it just make for a good story?
DZbettin
I wouldn't call it controversy, but there is no clear starter. In camp Wednesday morning, both Darby and McFall worked out with first team, alternating snaps. Not series, but snaps. If I had to guess, I would say McFall would play qb, move Darby to receiver or tight end and that will open a spot for Tolliver, Mason etc. in the backfield along side brooks. Of course if Darby proves to be the better quarterback in the long run then that's who they will go with.

McFall sharing time at RB will also allow him to play CB(the position I've said from the start appears to be his most natural position.) I may be wrong but to me starting McFall at QB signals that the passing game will be less of a factor than last year, but keeping the ball on the option will become more regular. In the limited action I saw Darby looked to be a good passer, and considering he started in the secondary, he also has the wheels to get out on the option. The question is, is the reward of McFall running from the QB position worth more than any limitations in the passing game JC may have vs is the reward of Darby as a passer worth more than any limitation in running from the QB position JC may have. Its hard to imagine the passing reward from anyone if you only throw it 6-8 times a game....at best. Do you really think they ran the "true option" last year...it looked pre-determined to me. cneagle87
The scrimmage with South at 6:00 has been moved to Carson-Newman College.. Time is still 6:00.

I was hopeful though that with Darby JC would open up the playbook more than last year and not have to face all the 8-9 man fronts that teams played against us last year. Oh and you're 100% right on the "option" that was run last year, didn't look like there was any read and react at all.
