I would have to say either Shuler of Maryville or Toney of Alcoa...Taharin Tyson will end up being a great FB for the next few years though /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

Jaron toney, over 1000 yds, 12 ypc as a soph and darren garner. I think garner came close to 2000 yds didnt he?

Dont get me wrong, Jaron is a great RB with insane agility and great speed...but hes no Troy Hodge or Chris Shiverdecker...I saw some really good things from the tornadoes at the Maryville College Passing League, and i believe Rankin will give Chase James the go-ahead to put it in the air a lot this year...I know Darren Garner has a lot of potential and is a great RB, but i don't know who is better between Garner and Toney...did garner start last year???

Based on experience, last year's performance, etc.--having not seen the kid from Alcoa much--and being a WB homer ... I would put Darren Garner at #1 on my list ... #2 would be Thomas Shuler who I think took a while to come back from his knee injury but was getting there by last season's end ... #3, I'll make a tie between Cermak and Toney. Also I think the Jones kid from MHS and Taharin are gonna jump up on the radar pretty quick.

Garner's rushing #'s may go down this year as he might be lining up in a receiver's slot quite a bit. But I really believe he's one of the best rb's not only in the county but in the state as well.

My opinion...........Darren Garner at WB is the top back in Blount County. An Alcoa back will have the most yardage based on the competition, and Rankin's offense. Buddy Jones at Maryville may be the surprise in Blount County and don't count out Cermack at Heritage. If he played on a good team with a strong line he would put up huge numbers. We all know what Shuler can do but he has to stay healthy.

Actually its harder for an alcoa back to get yardage because of the competion. Alcoa is usually so far ahead of the 2A teams they play against that it is hard for those backs to get as many carries as a lot of other backs. If you watch what coach rankin does, he usually pulls his starters to get reps for younger guys. Last season both Hodge and Toney had to average double digit ypc just to get to 1000 yds with QB Cobb also getting enough carries to break 800 yds. I think Garner will still lead the county in rushing yds because he will get a large percentage of his teams carries and hes that good of a back. I think WB coaches realize that for them to be a success this season they cant put the ball in the hands of Zach Whitt or the Burton kid but get it to Garner as much as you can, in as many different ways as you can and let him make plays. While Toney could very well end up being a 1500 yd rusher he will no doubt be sharing carries with Soph Tb Darrell Warren and Alcoa QB Chase James.

ML,

Is the older McCoy kid completely out of the picture as far as rb is concerned? He's awfully fast too.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
