When I saw the thread I knew Maryville must've won...didn't think a maryville person would start a thread like this if Alcoa won! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

That is correct Gold and that would probally work in reverse. Looks like we both have a lot to look foward to in the future. The Maryville / Alcoa game will always be the game to see each year.

It was a great preview of both teams...the Tornadoes just relaxed after getting a 14 point lead. #21 Jacob West of Maryville looked really good, and #29 "V" Hambrick and #81 Lajuan Warfield of Alcoa played great. There were a lot of great signs for both teams futures, and the best team came out on top. Good luck to both teams in the rest of the season /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

All I have to say is both teams are loaded for the future.

Hambrick and Warfield are studs. You hold your breath every time Hambrick touches the ball.

Maryville was fumbling and stumbling the whole 1st half. When they quit shooting themselves in the foot they played well. Maryville fumbled 5 times and lost 3 of them.

Patton Robinette is a stud quarterback. He can throw and run. Jacob West is unbelieveable as a freshman. Colby Tate and Brandon Guy dominated.

Other studs for Alcoa were John Tucker Rankin and #44

I don't take to much stock in freshman games but I thought both schools have nothing to worry about concerning any drop off in the future. As long as the coaching staff stays at the high quality it is now, both programs will continue to be a household name in Tennessee High School football.

I do think Alcoa is gaining on Maryville and is closing the gap in ability to compete at a higher level. Alcoa can thank their AD for hiring Coach Rankin for that. Some of those kids are huge and with the new Classification alignment coming in 09 there is no telling who the big winners or losers are going to be in the new system. I did not think there was anything wrong with the present system personally.

One thing I am now sure of Maryville needs to step up the 5A or whatever class the TSSAA puts them and Alcoa should move up a notch as well. Part of me hates to see it happen but it was going to one day anyway.

It will be fun to listen to the nay Sayers if Alcoa and Maryville can continue their competitive advantage at any level they get placed in. I would also like to see Heritage, W. Blount and Green Back improve their competitiveness too.

Patton Robinette lives in the city limits. I know what street he lives on but won't post it. His dad is principal at Heritage Middle School.

My main question was not why is he playing at Maryville. Everyone knows that where you live is not a valid question when it comes to playing football at Maryville or Alcoa. My main question is if he was in 8th grade at Heritage Middle in the 2006 season, and he is now on the Maryville freshman team in the 2008 season, what happened to the 2007 season?

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
