Might as well kick it off...

Who wins this battle between the D-1 private CAK and the D-2 private Webb?

Lots of side stories when these 2 teams play. Players are certainly familar with each other. Sounds like Webb really gave Catholic a tough time and the Irish are pretty darn good. You know what to expect from the Spartans offensively with the wing T. The freshman RB is quick and shifty. CAK needs to get some D-Line penetration to disrupt all those pulling guards and keep the sweeps contained. I'm not sure how good the Webb defense is but CAK will need a strong performance both on the ground and in the air. Webb's ground game controls the clock, so offensively CAK needs to put some points on the board early. Last year CAK did not perform very well in this game. I expect them to handle things better this year, win or lose, and give a better effort.

This is a very interesting game. The game last year IMO had a few factors that made it a lopsided victory for Webb. 1. The CAK QB had by far his worst game of the year, missing open receivers that he didn't miss in any other game last year. 2. Webb had 2 backs that were very, very fast. 3. CAK played with one deep safety. Several times, he was not able to get to the ball carrier and stop a big 15 yard run from becoming a long TD run. 4. CAK ran the ball very effectively against Webb but with the offense out of sync and Webb continuing to score, the run was taken away to a large extent after half time. 5. I actually think CAK was TOO "up" for this game.

This year appears to be different for both teams. Webb has very talented backs, but I'm not sure they have the absolute burners that they had last year. Although the QB is very solid, I'm not sure that Webb's wing T offense lends itself to him lighting it up throwing the ball. CAK has done well against the run so far but....has been off and on against stopping a running QB / option approach. CAK will have to play assignment football to stop the precision execution of Webb's wing T. CAK has a very quick defense that is built on reacting to the ball and gang tackling. Generally this is great, but the misdirection of the wing T really plays against this. Loudon's option QB was very effective at using CAK's quickness against them. If the whole D bites on the dive every play it will be a long night. It's also imperative IMO that the CAK defense stop long TD runs and hold them to manageable 10 - 20yd gains.

On offense, the loss of 2 senior WR's has been a bigger factor than I thought at first. Other receivers have stepped in and stepped up, but we have had alot more drops from quality receivers / athletes than we can afford. IMO, the receivers have to have their best effort and best game so far to beat a Webb team that had Catholic on the ropes. The teams that Webb has lost to are very good teams. We have to keep the score close to keep the running threat viable.

I admit that I'm not completely objective, but this game is winnable for CAK. However, it will take CAK's best effort to date to do it.

Webb by a couple of scores. Spartans control the ground game, and the clock. CAK hurries, when perhaps they need not, and Webb pressures mistakes. Repeat of last year. Warriors really miss Bennett. Kolinski is very good, but not the defensive player Joe was, IMO.

Fair points. FYI, unlike Bennett, Kolinsky doesn't play defense. The CAK coaching staff really tries to use separate players for each side of the ball.

    • We could sure use some math teachers country wide. Ever go into a store or restaurant and the bill comes to $9.97 and you give them a ten dollar bill and 2 pennies because you wanted a nickle back and then the meltdown starts and the next thing two more people have to come and help figure it out and the place comes to a complete halt. I see this everyday and it's a sad representation of all these schools allowing these kids out the door to get shortchanged the rest of their life.
    • I like the Pirates chances. I’ll be there as soon as work allows.
    • Stars, I heard we were searching far and wide for some math teachers. Any chance their kids bench press or 40 times are getting checked? LOL I’ve heard good things from 825.
    • I think it was expected. “Bad” luck I guess to get a couple difference maker QBs in the same class. I thought the decision was made a little early myself, but they were struggling offensively last year.  I assume the running quarterback alco had last year would be a senior this fall, and the transfer would start the following two years in addition to getting a ton of playing time this year. Maybe he waits two yrs, but I doubt it. The kid is good. So is the one who stayed.
    • I'm from Cloudland and we've never played a sectional game.  We need to win tomorrow night to avoid that bus ride.  Us and north greene can play with you guys so I'm expecting good games whoever the matchup is.
