Centennial vs. Columbia

Centennial (6-2, 4-1) hosts Columbia (3-5, 1-4) in a potentially historic game for the Cougars. If they win, they will clinch at least a 3rd seed for the first time in school history. Meanwhile, Columbia continues to struggle at the 5A level, and will most likely finish with an identical 3-7 mark for the second year running.

Obviously the star of Centennial continues to be Chaz Scales, who remains in the running for Region MVP. The challenge will be not looking ahead to next week's matchup against Franklin.

Centennial comes off the bye week and may be a little flat. Rumor has it that they have suffered a few injuries. Columbia's best defense will be their offense. They need to play keep away and control the clock. Columbia showed against Franklin that they can compete with a tough north and south running attack, but it will not be enough against the Cougars. Centennial's defense is just adequate with the offense running on all cylinders. With the Cougars winning it will lock up the 3rd seed and keep them alive for any seeding above that. They will ultimately win after the Lions wear down.

Centennial 44

Columbia 21

Franklin and Brentwood need to handle their own business and everything should work out. No one can afford to overlook anyone in this region.

I watched parts of that Columbia/Franklin game last week, and for much of that first half, Columbia really held that offense in check. However, once Franklin broke it open, Columbia seemed to roll over a bit. The key for Centennial this week is to score early and often. We can't have these Page/Dickson Co. kind of games where we give up TD's on the first three or four drives of the game. We need to take all the momentum early and control that game from start to finish. If we do that, CHS could make this a name-your-score game. But like we saw that first half last week, Columbia can really step up their game if its close. If this is a close game, Columbia has the athletes to get it done. So we need to play smart, focused, and disciplined from start to finish.
