Also one writer above wrote that the bowling team has as many "athletes" as the football team. This is not to far fetched. But I can tell you they do have a lot of tony Hawks walking the hallways, just not football players.

I think this is the problem that a lot of schools are running up against. There just doesn't seem to be as many guys that are willing to do what it takes to be a good football player anymore.

Portland is a fine town with a fine tradition in Football. All it would take is a coach who knew what he was doing and could convince the community that he knew what he was doing and they would be right back in the hunt. They have a coach up there who has been the D-line coach for a championship program for 10 years...another good coach or 2 and they could turn around real quick!

Is is my understanding that Portland High School football coach Mike Bever has resigned from his post with the Panthers. My sympathy goes out to Coach Bever and his staff. They are a fine group of men. However, when a coach leaves, another must enter. Does anyone have any thoughts on people of interest for this position? Does the position hold any appeal in coaching circles? My thoughts are that Portland was a 3A Powerhouse in recent years and they can be a competitive member of 5A football as well.

I HEARD PHILLIP FULMER MIGHT BE.

Good players make good coaches. There is not many of the portland teams throughout history that could compete in the division that they are in now. The town and principal will find out it won't matter who comes in, they are going to struggle to win 2-3 games per year.

Hey Buck, threw your name out there for possible consideration.

    • I havent kept up with Keeton since he went to Oakland, so hearing he is in a BOE role now, that may trump him coming back.  Rennard on the other hand. That dude is a Man Builder! And he was cut loose this spring from Scotts Hill. Heard him in a interview a few month back and he inspired me. He needs to be back home in the Purple & Gold, regardless of if he is HC or not or even if he doesnt coach at all, his presences will improve the environment. But Again, I have no clue if he would even be interested.
    • biggest....just saying he is good at what he does. I may or may not have already floated this out his way.   He is a good guy!
    • Shoulders from Macon co.  A creasy protege. Has the best coached team in the area as of late. Not much shot to win a state title at Macon but could very well be a contender with the talent coming up through the peewee and junior high ranks in TC I hear. He my dark horse candidate. trousdale co fans could also brag to their neighbors that they talked their best coach into coming to TC on a year of such high expectations at Macon co.
