Dribble-Drive-Motion Offense questions

What teams are running the Dribble-Drive-Motion (aka Memphis) offense this year?

Is it the primary offense or just going to be used in certain situations? What situations?

How do you stop the DDM?

Bolivar runs it and I am sure some others do. Its typically the primary offense. Usually its used when there is an absence of a solid back to the basket post guy. It was developed for a team that didnt have a solid post and it made sense to put him opposite the ball and create more driving lanes and kick out opportunities. Packline defenses can be effective against it especially if you have good on the ball defenders to go along with it.

I'd like to see Humboldt run this offense..I think they have better athletes than almost everyone they play and a lot of long, athletic guards and forwards that can drive the ball and finish...

answers

1. Only teams that have athletes as good as the ones at Memphis.

2. Certain situations when you don't have a clue what to do and you let the athletes take over.

3. a. Have better athletes.

3. b. Collapse the middle and hope they can't hit the 3.

Sad, but true

Play great help side defense, a great matchup 1-2-2 zone would work as well

UT showed how you stop it when they played Memphis last year. They played a very soft man defense, clogging the middle to cut down on dribble penetration when "drivers" had the ball and recognizing where the "catch and shoot" guys were. UT allowed Memphis to attempt a lot of 3's and gambled they couldn't hit them the whole game, which they didn't. For the most part, they didn't allow Memphis to hurt them with dribble penetration.

So I would say the key to shutting down this offense on any level would be to try to take away dribble penetration either by soft sagging d or by tough on the ball defense focusing on keeping your guy in front of you (very difficult against quick, athletic teams). When you allow dribble penetration, the whole defense breaks down and smart teams will exploit it by finding the open players for either open shots or more driving against a defense that is already overextended by helpside rotation.

You gotta guard, guard, guard and find the shooters get a hand up when they kick. Most teams that run this don't have alot of mid-range guys so they catch the ball and try to beat people off the bounce. Back off some if they get by you helpside then rotate to the closest guys to the basket and make the guy that drove make the toughest pass possible. You can also try to deny the he best dribble-drive guys the ball. Most teams that run this don't set the best screens becasue they rely on athletiscm to get them open. It's a tough night for most teams defensively. It can be done it just takes good COMMUNICATION (kids don't do anymore) rotation and a team defensive effort. Preparation is huge.

That's a pretty good observation. The only part I would disagree with is that the dribble drive offense doesn't really require screens..maybe that's why it appears the screens are not that good. I know it sounds crazy running an offense without screens.

    • The amount of people pooing on UH is crazy. They're a noticably better team than last year when they made state and were competitive , AND they run ruled Eagleville a few weeks ago. Now I understand Eagleville was missing a few guys, but they still. They. Run. Ruled. Eagleville. 1st single A team to run rule Eagleville since when? Pre 2017??
    • If that Yellow Paint is all gone I'll flat bet it didn't wash off there. I bet that took some scrubbing to remove that if it is gone. Lacrosse is one of those northern sports all these misplaced Yankee's that are posion to the community brought in by  (Blount Partnership, ( The Devil) with them so somebody allowed them to paint their markings on the field that cost more than the twenty top people on payroll at Maryville make a year. All this to please the 1% Club and the 25 people that would come to see it. All in the name of WOKE!!!!!!
