Taking those charges are a sign of good coaching.....Also it shows that a player isn't afraid of contact....Whitby used to be a master at it at OC....He had kids at OC that people kept stats on for taking charges....As far as officiating, any game can't compare to the garbage that happened at Lake County last season....That was the only game in my time on CoachT that has ever prompted me to really get on a set of three "officials"....I used to cry about officials all the time back in the day...I came to the realization that none of them are very good and you aren't going to get many calls when you hit the road.....I also came to the realization that officials don't win or lose games....Many things happen during the game that have more impact on the final score...Good teams overcome the refs....LC overcame the calls, so there ya go...

 

You must not have seen Whitby back when he was healthy....He cried and whined as well as any coach on the planet..He would get the refs to call anything...Again, that's a sign of gamesmanship and a sign of a smart coach....

 

The fact is, and you may not like it is this.....Lake County is probably 12-15 points better than this Union City team this season...LC only won by three in OT and could have very easily gotten beat...You mentioned earlier that LC started messing around when they built their lead on UC...That's nothing more than a lack of discipline....Championship caliber teams don't do that...You won't see Union City do that...If a UC player loses his mind and does showboat he will find himself sitting right beside Sisco before Shane's foot hits the floor when he does one of those famous foot stomps....

 

Just remember, UC will more than likely be one of the four teams in that loser-go-home regional semi-final round...They may lose when they go to Humboldt and Lake County later on in the regular season(I have them going 14-4 in the district)but right now the Sisco's are looking for improvement....They are trying to get the team ready for the tournaments....I wouldn't want to be that team opposite the Tornadoes in the region semi-final.....

 

On a different subject....

 

Did you hear about the fight that broke out at Fulton City last night??...It happened right after the game started..Two players were going for a rebound and got tangled up and started fighting...A woman came out of the stands and hit one of the Fulton City players on the jaw...That prompted a group of about 50 fans to come out on the floor and start fighting...I guess every cop in Fulton and Fulton County had to be called in to stop the riot....People got arrested....Police had to escort the Fulton County bus back to their school...A mess, for sure.....

 

 

 

You're right about everything..Been out shopping..And Union City dictated the game or the flow of the game..I'm not meaning that Union City doesn't have a good team or good players..Marshall and Simpson are very good ball players..Marshall hit several from long range...And Simpson is smart..Takes a lot of charges or what the officials give him..The thing about guarding him is to play defense and stay on your feet..He does that pump fake..as you're in the air..shoots and draws a foul or drives a player..I just wish the officials wouldn't have been so nit picky..Let both teams play..If that means Marshall and Simpson are on the floor and shooting the lights out and Lake Co gets beat..then that's just the way it goes!And you're right about discipline..I blame the Lake Co players or the coach for letting a lot of those shots happen..Why not call a time out and say..Guys..it's a minute left..We have a 6 point lead..Nobody takes a shot unless it's a layup!Should have taken him out of the game right then and made his point to the rest of the team also.!Lake Co plays Fulton Co tonight...I believe Lake Co plays Fulton City next week in a 1 game deal at Lake Co..!Getting ready to leave for Fulton Co. in about 20 minutes !

Uh bigster, kids are going to be kids. Someone has to rein them in and get them to play smart. If they are making stupid plays and take shots with a 6 point lead that late in the game they should be sitting on the bench. Who ultimately has the responsibility to see that players understand clock management and when not to throw up shots? You say the point guard, well what if he is not in position to get the ball, I say every player should have that essential fact pounded into their brain until it is second nature. I say again who is ultimately responsible for seeing that players understand that. We both know the answer to that question..............

 

 

 

You're right..I wrote about that in a reply to Gold..Same with a 3 point lead at one time to tie the game..There's no way I would let a guy come down and hit a 3 point shot against me with about 8 seconds left and a 3 point lead unless he made it from half court..Either I'm going to foul..hopefully the other teams worst free throw shoote..even if he's not the worst..all he is going to do is hit 2 free throws and still trail by 1..Or extend the defense and make them shoot a 2 point shot!A coach should be calling timeouts or hollering what he wants !Even with that..I was saying a point guard like C.J. because he is the leader on Dyer Co's team..Even Russel Avery or Carlos..needs to realize and say ..Look guys..We have a 6 point lead..No shots..Let's play smart..I know if I were on the floor..I'd say something whethe rthe coach did or not !

I don't doubt for one second that you would do that. From now on sit on the front row and when that situation comes up again yell out to the players to run some time off the clock. Somebody needs to, don't you think. You paid to get in and I can't think of anyone who invests more time, energy and money in to Falcon sports who isn't earning a paycheck for doing it. You have my full support. I got an even better idea, why don't you go to college, get your degree in education, get hired as a teacher at the high school and then when there is an opening for head coach you will be ready. You are already qualified as far as I am concerned. But you know the State of Tennessee has those pesky rules about a degree and certification and all. I am only half joking, I wish you could. I'd hire you in half a second.

Yea,but I believe you don't have to have a degree to be an assistant or at least sit on the bench!I use to sit on the front row at every game....just to ride the officials..even had the players on the bench laughing a few times about some of the things I'd say to the officials..Even had a couple officials smile and talk to me a couple times..most will hardly say talk to anyone during a game..Like to have got thrown out a couple years ago at Humboldt for messing with an official so I've been good the past couple years..I did get in a few jabs in the Union City game the other night though..Didn't say much at Humboldt..We lost but at least the officials let both teams play!I've learned that it's not going to do much good anyway to holler ..sometimes I think it makes it worse..And now some officials will have the school officials ask you to leave!I did talk to Coach Whitby tonight at Fulton and told him I can't believe Hockett shot that ball with a minute left to play and Lake Co winning by 6 points and the ball..He told me that he could have wrung his neck..Hockett may have done it on his own..but you're right..It should have been instilled in them during practices about different scenarios..and if it isn't...it would be after that,if he or any of the other players want to see any playing time..I guess I just may have to start sitting on the front row again!

Humboldt 58 there has been rumors that TB is ready to hang them up. Is there any truth to that and if so who do u think will be the next coach at HBT.

That rumor goes out every year, it started 5 years ago when his son graduated. No one knows the answer to that. I've heard a lot of coaches are waiting on it, inorder to apply for the job.

Thanks redgold83 i thought it was just a humor! If and when he does hang them up i would let to see him win a title or two!! When he does it will be a great job for some coach. HBT has always got some talent!!

What about there freshman class Brooks is the only freshman that dresses out is that right. Do they have any size coming up through the ranks? I should would like to HBT win some state titles they just haven't got the brakes the last few years. THey have had the talent to be a contender ever year i know i just been a member for few days been reading the boards for long while. U all have been listening to Lengend for a long time he like to taunt and try get next u! I am almost 6 decades old if he thinks he can get nexts to me he is nuts! I respect Manassas but thier trophy case is not loaded with gold balls! Good luck the rest of the year!!!!
