First, congratulations to all of the finalists.

Also, it is obvious that most of you do not know how the Mr./Miss Basketball ballot works. The 3 players named "finalists" are not the only 3 who are voted on.

Essentially, any player in the State is on the ballot. The votes were made by the sportswriters last week.

The voting is already over - the 3 "finalists" are simply the top 3 vote-getters. They just hold off on naming the winner until the State Tournament final.

Once the winner is announced, you can find out who was 4th, 5th, etc. in the voting.

Also, while it is an honor, the Mr./Miss Basketball award is based strictly on votes - as most of the voters have only seen the players in their respective areas. They are basing any other votes on what they have been told, or by reading stats. It is not uncommon for a player to be named Mr./Miss Basketball, but were not named the MVP award in their own district - this happened in the Miss Basketball 2006 for Class A.

Again, congrats to all of the kids -

How did they leave off Tyler Thompson...that guy smokes the opposition....if you looked at stats...scoring, rebounding, blocked shots, and assists......I bet nobody else is close

A player from Union City has won this award the last THREE years...I guess it was time somebody else won it...

My pick of the 3 would be Buckner but I bet Sexton gets a lot of votes....

A player from district 14a has won the award 4 years in a row. I think personally that Tevin or Russell Sould have gotten a nomination. If your one of the top 3 team in single a you sould have gotten at least that. I personally would have nominated Tevin for the award for his performance against us. But what i've heard is that he has been doing this all season. Tevin has the skill set to be a divison 1 player. He is about 6'5 give or take an inch. He has ball handling skills along with a much improve jumper. And he is pretty smooth with skills.

Russell is still my guy but I have to go with Tevin as district player of the year and also he need to be a mr. Basketball finalist.

Yea I attended the game...Thought it was funny that City played the 1-4 stall game and still lost by 40 points. Makes you wonder the outcome if they would have ran a little.

yes that was a great GAME PLAN!!! lol!!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Buckner should win this hands down... but like someone said earlier... it will be hard to carry all of the votes across the state living in Memphis... if you have seen all three play... Buckner is a huge favorite, followed somewhat closely by Sexton... and in a distant third Long...

Hey legend... How do you think Middleton would do against Union City, Humbolt, Lake Co, etc... this year... it seems as though they are a good squad that can play good teams really close, can can lose games that that they might should have won... Do you feel that if they get to the sub state they could luck up and beat Humboldt or Lake County... being as that would be the only time they would get two see any of these teams...

I really think that if you move Middleton to the east side of the state (regions 1 and 2) the would have a legit shot at making the state... real legit... What do ya'll think

    • Congratulations to Huntingdon and Station Camp. Lots of good softball in Tennessee. Alcoa been media favorite last two seasons.
    • Im more of a Basketball follower than football and like I said we play what we have, there is no going and recruiting or even talking kids into transferring…..and to rebut about Memphis teams in finals I’ve watched Memphis East and Penny Hardaway with the enrollment of a single A team play up and dominate any and all challengers for years! They aren’t the only ones either Mike Miller and son at Germantown put together that super team a couple years ago that ran through the rest of the state! Other teams from Memphis or Chatt or Nash or any large populated area pop up and are relevant out of nowhere every year because they get an influx of talent be it from a new coach or AAU affiliations it happens in football also just like any other sport! I hope these two schools that close join together and get to play the team you support, then you may see it differently! I find it funny some of you think recruiting and resources don’t matter . The county schools get very little funding also but you don’t want to get me started on that part!
    • In a total classless move, Coach Simmons once again shows his true colors. Waits till the day after school is out to let everyone know he is leaving. Fails up to a community college job after a lackluster 2 year span at GH. And do not tell me about the state run that saved a sub .500 season and plenty of whippings by Cookeville and Lebanon.  Looks like the girls job at GH is cursed. Terrible MS program/coaches feeding what is turning out to be a joke of a HS team.
