The only reason that argument has any credibility is due to WWII. The later years of WWII they didn't play.

BigJ
I do not know the story on that. It isn't what you would think though. According to the link that was posted by the Harriman fan, the Harriman/Rockwood rivalry started in 1921 and has been continuous ever since. Now, I don't know if that is true but it was part of some national media article on longest rivalries...

Would any of the South Pittsburg or Marion County faithful like to tell a story about any of these great contests over the years. I believe Dave Daffron, "Voice of the Warriors", is in the process of writing a book about this great rivalry. Any stories would be greatly appreciated. Who is the oldest living person that you know that played in the rivalry? I hope Dave gets it done. He has called a lot of those games. I called 10 and it was a blast and many memories. chs4life
Coffee Co./Tullahoma is HUGE. 8-10,000 people every year. It even has a name "The Coffee Pot". I will say the SP/Marion Co. was Big Time.

rlh
You guys can talk about 1921 and Harriman/Rockwood all you want. The TSSAA was formed in 1924. There used to be pics around of Jasper & South Pittsburg from the 19-teens wearing sweaters and no helmets like were worn during the era for football. The scores posted by Bill are when scores started being kept in the rivalry. Regardless, the title of the thread is "Greatest Rivalry." The Pirates & Warriors have 8 football state titles between them and 5 runner-up slots since 1969 to fuel this thing. Now that they are in one of the A districts again for the first time since around 1982, this just puts back one of those layers of intensity.
