It's very obvious, New TSSAA Director must have had his game plan thought out. It appears that now is the time to start working the problem out. Likely things are not going to get significantly better in the next year but next year might be better. Reworking the State Tournaments is a task that has arrived. For three years now its been talked about. Considering fans travel is an important part of the task. Everything that has been done by the Association this past year has had the fans in mind and to not refine and continue working on that work is not reasonable. Times will get better later. To not make other major changes is not in the right direction. Sure, changing the tournament structure is not pleasing or easy but if it is the right thing to do. It is the right thing to do and make it the best it can be. It's impossible to tell me there is not a plan B on the board. Redoing the format is the right thing to do and the quicker the better.

Need to go to 6 classes. 4 teams in each class go to state. 1 from west, 1 from midwest, 1 from mideast, 1 from east each class. Would be fair for rural schools and big city schools. Have sectionals at one location in each section, that is reasonable for the teams involved. cuts down on team expenses and TSSAA expenses

How is that fair? If you are going to 4 teams, it should be the best 4 teams, no matter where they come from. If the best 4 teams are from Nashville, then a Jackson team that is the 5th best team shouldn't go ahead of them - or vice versa.

2. No tournament lasts longer than a week. Week for districts, week for regions, sectional over a weekend and week for state. Three weeks is all it takes to get to a state champion after the regular season. The dang season starts in October and doesn't end until March.

The way the Districts are configured, 8AAA only has 6 teams. What makes you think 4 of the 6 would advance? Now I don't have the original config of Districts and regions but something tells me something would be combined. If you find the way the Districts and Regions would be combined, please post it. RD, we need the rules of the game but it doesn't take as long to play the District with 6 Schools, 5 weeks instead of 7 unless there are additional schools that can be counted add on schools for the district. It's possible the format has already changed.

That's if you don't make the post season, which is a reasonable length when you consider that it will take 5 more weeks to play 9 games for the boys. One week less for the girls.

 

Last season, our boys finished basketball on March 9 when they lost in the sectionals. Baseball regular season started the same day and is basically over April 30th. Baseball season is almost the same length as the basketball post season when you look at it that way. If 3 months is reasonable, how does 7 weeks compare?

They already cut out two regular season games, for districts with lots of teams (9 in the AA district here) that made it difficult to get in a good combination of money games and quality opponents. They could cut it by a week or two and teams would have to have 3 a week more than they wanted but no more games need to be cut from the regular season. 6 classes would spread the districts too wide and that's one thing they were looking to end in football, cutting it to 3 classes for the regular season.

Should go to the same format that Alabama uses. They have 6 classes and the regional tournaments are well attended and are played at junior colleges. Change it now Bernard.

The way Tennessee is set up, very likely some schools have better facilities and districts have less travel holding the regionals at schools. However a good idea. Likely better attendance at schools. The costs involved in getting out of member schools and the politics of cost centers of Higher Education makes one think its best to reformat down to where some of the largest secondary facilities can handle it or be in an area that the draw would be so good, the crowd could support the event. Wonder how long its going to take to pay for the lawsuit in attendance? Or is this deficit spending? The good move was to cut down travel expense knowing that gate prices would have to go up.

High school gyms would be fine the format used Alabama would energize basketball in Tennessee.
