It is officially Friday night and there are several good games around District 11-AA tonight :roflol:

Camden plays McKenzie in a game featuring 2 teams from the west-TN area who both have high hopes for the 2009 season. The winner of this game will definitely carry a lot of momentum into week one.

Cheatham County plays Smith County in a game featuring 2 very solid 3A football programs from right here in the midstate area. It will be a good opening test for both teams.

Waverly Central plays Hickman County in a game featuring 2 teams that both went to the playoffs last season. This should be a highly contested game.

Stewart County plays McEwen in a game featuring 2 teams that had great seasons last year and who'll be looking to start this year off on the right note. Both had an opportunity to see one another last week in the jamboree so there will be no secrets in this one.

Creek Wood plays Dickson County in a game that has been in the making for more than 6 years now and tonight is finally the time for it to be played. Both teams are coming off of subpar seasons and both would love nothing better than to start this season off on the right note at the expense of the arch rival.

Harpeth & Montgomery Central are playing in the Queen City Jamboree in Clarksville. This will be the final preseason test for both of these teams before they start regular season play next week.

Friday night lights has finally arrived! It just doesn't get any better than this.

I think District 11AA is in for some good competition this year, and that brings excitement to the stadiums on Friday night.

The Harpeth vs West Creek Jamboree game has been moved from Kenwood to Clarksville Northwest......game time at 7pm.

District scores:

Hickman County 24 Waverly 18 (in Overtime)

Stewart County 30 McEwen 7

Dickson County 34 CreekWood 19

Camden 26 McKenzie 24

Smith County 40 Cheatham Co 0

Harpeth won their Jamboree contest over West Creek 14-6. The defense played outstanding except for a sweep by West Creek to the sideline and a missed tackle that forced the runner back across field where he found daylight and scored a big run. The Harpeth D held West Creek to only 3 first downs on the night. There were a couple of QB sacks and a huge 35 yard interception return in the 2nd period by Andrew McWright.

Offensively, Harpeth moved quickly on their first possession behind some huge holes and tough running by Dakota Seagraves and Travis Tice. Seagraves had several runs right up the middle for big yardage. QB Jeremy Roark found Perry Horkins for a couple of big passes including a 10 yard TD pass in the first period. Also making big plays for the Indians on offense were a long pass completion to Nathan Foriest, another short pass to Austin Deal, and some nice runs for big gains by big Dalton Patterson.

The Indians had a chance to score again late in the 2nd period but a pass from Roark to Horkins just missed the mark as Horkins was approaching the West Creek 10 yard line with wide open space in front of him. Placekicker Owen Canady did his job with 2 extra points. But on the night, I give the credit to the Harpeth D and the O Line for protecting Roark and opening up the holes. A good game for Harpeth as they travel next week to Hickman County for their opener.

CW looked good for about three quarters, then went down hill. the score was 7 6 at halftime With cw missing the extra point. cw had alot of penalties, one bringing a touchdown back on a perfect screen pass. when cw had to pass, hooper looked uncomfortable in the pocket and sometimes waited too long to throw the football. Bell looked really good and cain smith made a heck of a touchdown catch

It was great to revist the rivalry between the Rebels and Lions last night. Sloppy affair for both teams...lots of turnovers and penalties, the usual week 0 stuff. Score should have been much more lop-sided but the Lions seemed intent in keeping McKenzie in the game. The game did answer some questions the Lions had though. First...even though this team is fielding alot of underclassmen, probably the most in the Kevin Ward era and quite a few inexperienced upper classmen too, it has ALOT of talent and that talent has stepped up to the plate in a big way. Second....the line play was VERY good. Even though Camden could not establish any semblance of a passing game, they were able to run at will after the first couple of series. Third...even though the Lions tried to give this game away several times, this team has no quit in it like alot of young, inexperienced teams would. Finally... as we all know, great coaching and players buying into the system makes all the difference in the world. :thumb:

Glad to have this one under the belt. Hopefully the Lions have all the first game jitters out of the way and can get down to some serious football. On to next week...bring on Bruceton! Go LIONS!

Harpeth had their way with Hickman County defeating the Bulldogs 56-13. Scoring for the Indians was balanced with six different players putting up points: Travis Tice 1 TD, Dalton Patterson 2 TDs, Perry Horkins 2 TDs, Tanner Cox 1 TD, Travis Stanfield 1 TD Andrew McWright 1 TD.

Harpeth had well over 300 yards of total offense, probably closer to 350 plus. The elusive Tice had his way with the Bulldogs on the ground. Im guessing he put up 125-140 yards on the ground with Patterson adding another 75 or so. With Horkins drawing double coverage all night, it left speedy Nathan Foriest in single coverage and he filled the bill for the Harpeth receiving corp as he led the Indians in receiving yards with some nice catches. Cox had one 20 plus yarder for a score while Horkins had 3 catches on the night. But the night belonged to Tice as he diced his way for yardage and then some. Besides the nice work by Foriest, the double coverage on Horkins also allowed Tice and Patterson to run at will against the Bulldogs, and they came through with flying colors.

Defensively, Harpeth was solid all night except for what appeared to be a Hickman County kneel down with time running out in the 2nd quarter only to hand the ball off and run the length of the field for their first points to close the first half with Harpeth leading 35-7. The third quarter looked like it belonged to the Bulldog offense as they chewed up more than 7 minutes on the clock to score their second TD of the night. But from there, the Indian defense stiffened and Hickman County could only watch as the Harpeth offense continued to dominate.

The Indians lost Fullback Dakota Seagraves to a leg injury in the 4th quarter. He was taken to Vanderbilt for xrays so we will find out more in the next day or two about the seriousness of the injury. Another Harpeth player, Jeremiah Griffin, went down with an injury but he is expected to return next week. Lineman Will Bradshaw went out of the game early on with an ankle injury, and Cornerback Josh Dillon also made an early exit with tightness in his thigh. The injuries to Bradshaw and Dillon do not appear to be extensive.

KSGoVols can give more details of the game.

Congrats to Harpeth on a very impressive win over a solid Hickman County bunch. Congrats to Montgomery Central on snapping a 29 game losing skid tonight with a 19-0 win over CA. Congrats to Creek Wood & Waverly Central on collecting their first wins of the season tonight. Congrats to Camden on shutting out Bruceton to go to 2-0 on the season tonight. Hope Stewart enjoyed the night off and got to heal up this week.

Cheatham played much better tonight but still too many mistakes in the end. They are young and fighting some injury issues but as long as they keep working hard good things will come I am sure :roflol:

Here we go everyone it is week two and that means that district play is ready to begin. This week's slate has some interesting matchups and I can't wait to see how they unfold :thumb:

West Creek at Montgomery Central

The Indians got a 19-0 win over Clarksville Academy in coach Marcus Bragg's debut at the helm of the football program. The win snapped a 29 game losing skid for the Indians and now they have a great opportunity to improve to 2-0 this week against a brand new high school football program.

Waverly Central at Creek Wood

The Tigers dropped an overtime decision to open the season against Hickman County while the Red Hawks dropped a decision in their big inter-county matchup with Dickson County. How did both teams respond? Waverly Central crushed Houston County while Creek Wood manhandled Greenbrier. Both teams are on highs following last night's wins and both would love nothing better than to get a fast start in district play.

Harpeth at Camden Central

The Indians opened the season last night by crushing Hickman County 56-13. Camden won a barnburner in their opener against west-TN powerhouse McKenzie and then last night the Lions won a 35-0 decision over Bruceton. These 2 teams have not met since their playoff matchups in the opening round back in 1999 & 2000. Camden's football program has been very good since that time while it appears that Harpeth is ready to return to the form in which they played at during that same time period. This one will give someone a quick head start in the 3A playoff hunt.

Cheatham County at Stewart County

The Cubs dropped their season opener 40-0 at Smith County and then last night they fell in the home opener against East Robertson 29-12. The loss showed some improvement as several young players got to see some varsity action for the first time. It is a tough hill to climb being so young. Stewart County jumped out to an early 23-0 lead in their opener against McEwen and cruised to a 30-7 victory. This game should be interesting as the 2 schools have had some great battles on the hardwood and the diamond and I look for it to carry over to the gridiron.

The Camden/Harpeth matchup will definitely have playoff implications...should make for a great game. Looking forward to seeing how the young Lion defense responds to a good passing offense. If the Lions can get enough penetration from the D line to keep Harpeth's QB off-stride it will help our DB's out alot in the back end....if not, it could be a long night. Camden's running game, even though it's young and inexperienced and still early in the season, impresses the heck out of me. Using the two scat backs and a big bruising grinder (ala Chris Donald) to run the clock out and keep the ball out of Harpeth's QBs hands will be the best game plan Camden could have. A few passes here and there just to keep the Indian D honest wouldn't hurt either. Oh yeah, hanging on to the ball a little better would also be a plus. dry.gif

Has Harpeth ever played at Camden? I know we've played @ Harpeth in the playoffs a few times but I don't remember a regular season game at Camden. Regardless, welcome to the beautiful shores of Kentucky Lake ... hope to see a big crowd. Go LIONS!
