Maryville vs. Dobyns-Bennett 1st Round

I'll put it this way.If we had last years team and played the way we did at South this year,we would have got beat by three touchdowns last night.

 

Yeah, no kidding. Last year's team couldn't get out of the first round of the playoffs at home.

 

My main point of frustration is that a DB teams should get beat by 41 points by anyone - including the Pittsburg Steelers!

 

A few questions for the historians...

 

When is the last time DB was beaten by 41 points?

When was the last time DB was shut out?

When was the last time DB even gave up 41 points? (Probably MBA at home, I guess)

When was DB's last losing season?

How many losing seasons has DB had in the history of the program?

Have any of the teams that have beaten DB in the first round of the playoffs gone on to win the next round?

When was the last time D-B played Maryville? Not trying to be a smart A here, but it is what it is. We in 5A have been trying to tell you guys for years. Now you know. If not for Maryville, the 5A could have been won by an upper East team in the last few years. Tn High won the lottery this year. They are the best team in upper East TN and they don't have the Maryville equation to deal with. 5A is wide open. It's now or never. P.S. If this game doesn't prove that scrimmages mean NOTHING, then some people will never be convinced. Cheer up though Indian fateful, help is on the way.

Yeah, Volman...last years Maryville team was probably considered a push over...at least by Maryville standards. This years Maryville squad probably compares with the '07 Red Rebels. Now DB knows. They thought they knew before. We knew better. At least they had the opportunity to learn. Beaten no team west of Morristown! Ha!

To start with DON'T ever try to put yourselves on any kind of even plain with Dobyns Bennett football. You know nothing about what DB can or can't do on the football field either past, present, or future. To remind everyone or your ignorance, every year the both of you (Volman & Compukestat) start running your mouth 2 months before the season starts about how great your team is and how bad your going to beat DB. And every year you lose and lose big. Last year you couldn't wait to get a piece of Maryville in the playoffs. I remember it well. You know nothing about Maryville or DB. Nothing. I don't know why you and a handful of Tennessee High fans think it is nessarry to come on CoachT to try and convince people that Maryville has been knocking you out of winning state championships when to my knowledge you have only made it far enough to even play Maryville "1" time each.

It would take a fool to ever say you can or you will beat Maryville on the football field. That is true for ANY high school in the state. But I think DB in most years would play toe to toe with Maryville and be in the game in the final minutes with a chance to win. You can do score comparesons over the years to give you some ideal. Im not going to sugar coat it, this DB team of 2009 was the worst team we've had in the past 30 years and in some areas such as pride and dedication probably the worst in school history. And thats why the got beat so bad by Maryville. And yes help is on the way. We have some very fine players coming back Jr's, Soph's, & Frosh. I won't make any predictions about beating Maryville, Oak Ridge, Farragut etc. but I do believe we'll keep adding to our 17 yr. win streak over South and start a new 10 yr. win streak over Tennessee High. NOW YOU KNOW!

You don't have to ask all the what if's. Also, if you'll notice, I never once downplayed D-B's dominance over us. That is a fact. I also didn't say South woulda won any state titles. I simply said, if not for Maryville, an upper East TN team could have won a state in the last few years. The 5A state is now wide open. Hopefully, an upper east team will take advantage of this fact.

I don't think the "previous poster" was directing his "?'s" to a South fan. Because like I said, you folks don't know squat about DB football. And let me go ahead and prove you wrong on another subject. Maryville is not the field where the Gold ball is presented. As Morristown West proved a few years back. They actually beat Maryville in the playoffs then went on to lose in the final game. So that right there proves your wrong. And 5A is not wide open now. Upper east tn. still don't know if they can compete on down the road because they really haven't played anybody on down the road. Either way, it would be nice if you would just leave DB's problems to the "DB" people.

The stress level on here is stifling. I would like to make a friendly suggestion for all the die-hard DB fans on CoachT. There are still a number of very good Upper East Tennessee teams playing this Friday night. The South/Catholic or the TH/Boone or even the Sullivan North game look to be an exciting way to get over your present funk and could prove to be very therapeutic.

As for myself,I know that a lot of DB players gave it all they had this year,and we just didn't have the horses in a few games.One game this year was {about } as disapointing as Mc Minn last year,but we lost to some real good teams for the most part.Next year looks real good on paper,and we have some talent coming back and up.I hate that I started my Indian a year early,but I'm glad to have known this group and last years group of seniors and many of the parents.I've been around many of the 10th and 11th graders in other city sports that go more on age,and I like many of these fine young men and look forward to watching them play.Roll Tribe
