1A Playoffs. TSSAA got it wrong.

Clay County misses out because their of the three-way tie in the standings. Monterey wins the three-way tiebreaker and gets an automatic bid. the head-to-head win for Clay County doesn't matter in the three-way scenario. Unless TSSAA has their overall or district records wrong.

Jackson Co. is part of that three way tie, but they're 2A. And TSSAA had Clay listed as an automatic qualifier if FC beat Monterey, which they did.

I know JC is 2A, but playoff qualifiers are determined by final district standings as a whole. When the three-way tie is broken, Monterey finishes above Clay County and gets an automatic bid. TSSAA had the scenario wrong. They also had the scenario wrong in District 4-A when they said both Coalfield and Sunbright could earn automatic bids this week with wins because only one would get the automatic berth. I have called TSSAA in the past to report problems in their scenarios for teams in my area. Unfortunately, it seems no one caught this one before the brackets were released. But the way I see it is Monterey gets the automatic bid unless someone's overall record or district record is wrong. Again, I could be wrong because I don't keep up with that area. I just know when I used TSSAA's format last night that there were 16 automatic qualifiers and 8 wildcard spots with Sunbright getting the last spot.

Who knows. They had Gordonsville playing Monterey in the first round until they changed it. And, we had to play each other because we're in the same region, which we got lumped into.

Cloudland and Coalfield are automatic qualifiers and they are seeded before wildcard teams. That's why Coalfield and Cloudland are higher seeds.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. There's absolutley no logic in that seeding process, as evident in this case. They need to set the Quad's then seed the teams accordingly. It shouldn't matter if you win your district or if you are a wild card team, you should be seeded by record/strength of schedule. You could have a team win a weak district and have a terrible record and wild card team from a tough district that has a good record. Just something to talk about.

Think about this. Cloudland could have went 1-9, beat Hancock County and still been the No. 4 seed. I also think overall record should be used to seed teams. Heck, Loudon is 8-2 in Class AAA and playing on the road.

That really isn't much different than year's past.

There has been 3 and 4 seeds from strong districts have to play 1 and 2 seeds from weak districts.

But, I think one thing we can agree on is that this is a mess.

I think White Co. made it in at 1-9. Ridiculous.

Yes the playoffs need to to be revamped. I saw it coming. White County is in 4-A won only one game and was in only two games all year. They were beaten soundly by everyone else yet get a decent seed at 1-9 becasue they beat Cumberland County 21-14 last night. Unreal!

Then the TSSAA tells us we have to be in the Mega-Region because we have two Districts with 4 and 5 teams each so we all play in a 9-team Region. BUT they allow a 3 team region in District 16 Class 2-A with 2 of them going. Unbelievable!

We are #26 in Class 2-A, Dresden is #25, so it might not even help us, BUT you hate to be told one thing and then it not be the case. The track record of TSSAA officials is not very good. I am not saying they are misrepresenting the facts but maybe just misinformed. Anytime you are the creator of something and you provide misinformation about it, you lose credibility. The TSSAA is teetering on the edge of the credibility issue.

My advice to the TSSAA - Make your rules, let everyone know what they are and then go by them across the board WITHOUT playing favorites. What applies to one district should apply to all. Are you going to try to fix it or is just a small school problem that you will ignore. If the Class 2-A District 16 situation was in 6-A or 5-A you would have already fixed it. That's not an accusation, it's simply a fact..... and maybe an indictment of the system.
