I guess Alumn89 is one of the "choosen ones" who get to particapate in Cookeville athletics. The rules of the game should have been announced when the boy from Cookeville slapped the pad on the ball goal and got the T. As for class Cookeville has never came to Livingston and only had a small section to sit, and have always been welcome in our building. We love the competition!! As for the PA guy, he did a poor job period! Talking during play, Turning the music up during our hog-eye cheer, that is bad sportsmanship and no "CLASS"!!!! GO HOGEYE!!!

a few things,

one... Whenever Tech basketball plays on the same night as a home game, Cookeville attendance is usually a little down. It happens in a college town.

two... Cookeville doesn't play at """hog eye country """ this year I don't believe so good luck trying to show them real hospitality. This must be scheduling issues as there was only 1 game last year at LA

three.. It looked like the PA guy was told to read off the sportsmanship statement. There were some questionable calls being made both ways (which happens, part of the game ) and it was getting a little rowdy.

to say Cookeville doesn't have class is kind of not having class itself isn't it? Congrats on your win and good luck getting back to state

one...Ive been to tech games...attendance could get alot better there too!!! Putnam County has enough residents to make a better showing than that. Thats lame.

two...probably a good thing Cookeville doesnt come to """HOG-EYE COUNTRY""" as the results would probably be the same.

three...it looked like the PA announcer was told to read off the sportsmanship statement (I agree). Now would he have read it had Cookeville had a player at the line? NO and I would guarantee that. Again lame. Isnt this particular reffing association based out of Cookeville? Pshhh!

I'm new to Cookeville, just moved here from Illinois. H S Basketball is very big in the town I come from, crowds of 2000-3000 for regular season games and 4000+ for state regional & sectional games. So, it will be disappointing to go to games with minimal support. My son is playing middle school ball & his games take priority, but we will be getting to some CHS & Tech games.

You should plan on having your kid transfer when entering high school. He will be better off.

Not a chance! There isn't a better high school in the area for an education. That is the priority. No way would I send my child to a high school as small as most of the schools around here. While Cookeville may seem like a arge school here, it is half the size of our former high school.

I read on the Overton County News that the LA/Ensworth game scheduled for Saturday Dec 5th has been moved to January 23rd. Can anyone verify this?

Wildcat70

The game was moved and I have heard no real reason why. Originaly I heard Ensworth wanted more time for football players to prepare. I could see the more time thing being more the other direction.

Talk your smack all you want to. Cookeville High School is a great institution. Did you not have the whole upstairs on your side to yourselves? That isn't good enough for ya? Look, the reason for the large student section is in years past the Cookeville student section has often become that big and they would stand for the entire game.(sadly, student participation is down recently) People that sat there would become irritated because they couldn't see the game so they began to tape this section off so there was no confusion/frustration.

For those of you angry about the PA guy. Give him a break, it is his second year doing it after taking over for the great Eldon Burgess. He is a nice guy and I don't think he would have done anything intentionally to interfere with LA's play. If that isn't what you think , then fine be mad about it.

I see the same thing when JC goes to Cookeville every year, we have many more fans than they do and those students crowd us and block our view when half their side is empty and not anyone upstairs anywhere. If they won't to stand and act like a bunch of unruly want to bes let them go to the empty parts of the gym and carry on.

So what we're saying here is that Putnam County wasted a boatload of money by building those beautiful entrances all over the building at Cookeville High? By all means don't use those entrances as they were designed for the safety and convenience of basketball lovers.

What a great and novel idea by whomever is in charge at CHS to bring a folding table into the gym and allow people to come into the only one of about 200 emergency exit doors that doesn't have crime scene tape X'ed across it. Are you kidding me? Does any other school use crimes scene tape all over every door? Does that look welcoming at all? To anyone?

Then, after bypassing those trillion dollar entrances and all the caution tape to find that one door, the visiting crowd and huge CHS student body do have a choice as to how to get to the visiting side of the gym. They can either walk onto the court under the goal or walk across the basketball goal support to get to the other side of the gym, where the visiting crowd ventures to the opposite end to find the small section designated as the VISITOR crowd by, you guessed it, more crime scene tape. Then as the visitors sit and try to take in all the CHS hospitality, they begin to realize that there is enough extra seating that isn't pulled out that would make the CHS gym seat about as many folks as Thompson Boling Arena.Yet, visitors get one small section roped off for them.

People. It's gonna be difficult, as if anyone from CHS cared anyway, to make this place seem hospitable. It would be different if you didn't have adequate facilities. How do you make this kind of treatment not seem rude? Do the few Cookeville fans not notice all this or care about how it looks?

Then again maybe they do care. You have, what, 17,000 students at CHS and 23 fans?

Cookeville has always been a rude team to play weither it be at Cookeville or at LA. And to top it off now im afraid to even park my car there in their parking lot. During the LA/CHS game some body went out and broke the grill off my car and stole the toyota emblem off the front of it along with all the crome on the front. Dont believe me go ask the Cookeville city police who btw took almost a hour to get back to the other end of the parking lot. I think the PA guy reading the sportsmenship quote was probalby directed more towards the few CHS fans more than the LA fans. If you think that was bad you should attend a few more of LA's games we can get alot louder than that. As for the seating there was no excuse to rope off that much of the visiting side knowing that most of the home side would be wide open. You would never get treated that way at a Livingston home game.

Allow me to throw in some more things about the strange crap that goes on at Cookeville High School

when Basketball games are going on. Last year I think they had a couple of games with the guard rails all pulled out on one end and then in the middle where the guard rails stuck up about 3 or 4 inches right in the middle of where people had to walk. I wrote the Principal of the school and he hum hawwed around trying to think of an excuse of why the rails shouldn't be there and finally decided that they really ought to be there after all and they put them back up.

Water fountains used to be all turned off. I wrote him again and he said they were having problems with them which was strange since also the year before they hadn't worked and he assured me that he would get them fixed. In the Mid South Classic, I think they still wasn't working. They were working the last game with LA. I suspect that they turn off the fountains so you will have to buy the $1.50 or more bottle of water.

Before a game last year on Saturday, I beleive this was a Mid South Classic day and they had the gates at the front of the high school closed and a bunch of people were trying to get in that way.

They finally did open them, but notice at Cookeville High School, everything has to be done backwards.

Go in the rear to get in as you mentioned, use the back entrance streets, etc. In addition they can't count at the consession stand. I can truly say that Cookeville High is the worst place that LA ever plays in terms of mess ups. One more thing is the crowds. LA always outnumber the Cookeville fans

and I have never saw them outnumber LA, and I have been going to the game for years and years.
