Anderson County defeats Farragut

I watched a great match last night. Anderson County beat Farragut in what may be a Regional match up. Farragut has pulled ahead of the pack in their district, and Anderson County is the most improved (by a mile) team I have watched this year.

It was senior night and Farragut won the first game by 2 or 3 points, but neither team played well. The second game AC went out to a big lead playing the best volleyball I have seen all year, from anyone, then just stalled. Farragut didn't really do anything to get back in the game, AC just let up.

I thought it was over, but AC made a statement, winning the next 3 in impressive fashion.

I think the Farragut coach (who is in her 1st year) was a little intimidated. She didn't make any adjustments when AC switched up their offense, and once the AC coaches pushed their defense deep to take away the corners it was over. Not meaning to be critical, but you have to make adjustments and Farragut didn't do anything different to mix it up when AC took over the match.

AC had a great crowd, and when they got fired up they just exploded. I honestly have never witnessed a more intense team. AC starts 4 sophomore hitters, but when the coaching staff got fired up they looked like a college team. I am biased towards Catholic, but the AC staff is amazing.

I enjoyed the whole evening. It was fun to watch, and exciting. The 5 th game was back and forth, but Farragut ran out of gas. I noticed alot of the Farragut players breathing hard. AC, by contrast, looked like they could have played another match!

Good job to both teams.

Considering the depth of AC and now Farragut with only 7-8 players, it doesn't surprise me that Faragut ran out of steam. They would benefit by running laps (this week)for conditioning to keep up. I agree with the 'green' practices of Coach Davidson; her experience with strategy could make the difference as would the conditioning to outlast teams because of the limited players for Farragut. AC didn't fair well with Karns however who have strength, depth and conditioning to outlast anyone. They (Karns) have been able to go undefeated this year and usually in 3 games. But they have been known to play 23 games in 2 days and look very strong, win a tournaments while doing so.

If Farragut keeps it up they could take Bearden and Catholic in their district. AC is still second at best in their district. Regionals will be fun.(where is it this year?) Sub-state even more..........

LOVE THE COMPETITIVE NATURE OF THIS AREA!

Yes, please let's hear more about Oak Ridge.

Speaking of irrelevant VB programs, is it true that Science Hill won AC's tourney last weekend? SH is no better than fourth in district 1AAA.

So Science Hill is irrelevant, is what you are saying. And yes they they did win, beat Anderson County in the semis

I am tired of the talk. If I hear another Anderson County or Karns post I may stop getting on here. So AC beat Farragut. What is the big deal?

It is frustrating that only a select few teams get talked about.

Promise? oops sorry; I just had to.

Now that's not fair to oust plugs- your year will come and then you will be typing again..... Let teams get all the glory when they are shining. Each year or two it changes which makes it very interesting. Who would care if one team only ever won year after year......b o r i n g. (I know! Maybe accept for the winning team of course). Even then it wouldn't mean anything.

:thumb: Here's for the teams who have lost every game and still show up for practice and work hard. Here's for the coaches who want to throw their hands up but don't give up on the team or the parents. God Bless them all! Let's here it for character. It's easy to support a winner.

Think I got more than SH with that one.

If you were up on your VB history you'd point out that Science Hill has been to state ('07) more recently than South ('06). Yes, it was their only trip and they only won one match, but it sure beats staying home.

Couldn't do much in the regular season against DB or South (or Central?), but maybe SH is ready to play with the big dogs now in the districts. Better do it soon before you run out of Rice sisters.

Good post Bigfoot!

My biggest gripe against Orcat is the negative attitude towards the other programs, which begins with the coach. It was no secret that Smokey Mountain Juniors did not support the local high school teams. In fact, the main reason for the split was the lack of respect shown to the areas best high school coaches.

Oak Ridge WAS a top tier program under coach Smith. CF is now seeing that running a high school team is much harder than coaching a club of all-stars.

Looking back at BFs post, and this topic, I agree and disagree. Karns and Bearden are hot teams this year, and last. Can they sustain it?

At AC their trophy case is filled with championships. According to the information given out by the school it opened in 1982 (28 years ago) and has been to 18 state tournaments. They have produced almost 60 all-state players, almost all of whom went on to play in college. There coaching staff (except for the male coach) all played at AC. Last night was the 50th time AC and Farragut played and Farragut has only beaten AC 12 times, and they are the only school in the state to win at least 10 times against AC.

Say what you will, but both AC and Farragut have shown that they can stay at the top for decades. Oak Ridge has not.

Next year if Karns can win the Region when they don't have the tallest, and best players then they can enter the discussion. This seems to be their year, and it should be. They have the most talent. Can they win when they don't?

Farragut wins because they have a large pool of club players to draw from. AC because they have a great coaching staff and a system that breeds champions. Oak Ridge has neither. The best athletes play other sports, and their coach is middle of the road at best.

If Karns can follow the AC model of being at the top every year, and not just when they have a stacked team, in 10 years they may be in the discussion.

Its easy to win when you have the best talent. In fact, if Karns doesn't win it all this year then I would label the season a dissapointment. AC believes they can win every year, and they don't seem to care which 6 they put on the floor. After watching them fight for 2 hours last night in a match they should have lost, they are the last team I would want to play in an elimination game.

 I can tell you one thing, we need to get a Tournament set up and let K2ruth, sshsvbdad05, Bigfoot1200, wkktnvolsfan and oracat to bring their teams and have a battle royal :hungry: at one of the schools there, except I'm afraid we could never get an agreement as to where to play it. And likely would have to separate the fans. You are ready for a Tournament right now. I believe South, Oak Ridge, and DB will be at the Mid Tenn and I think they are in different pools, whew. What a relief!!!!!!

Sorry PHargis, but I don't expect to see South at the Mid-TN Classic. Too many big dogs there for them to show up! :thumb:

It also looks like DB and Oak Ridge are in the same pool!

South was at the Franklin TOurnament, which wasn't a really strong field. THey got beat easily by Indy in the second round of the gold. They didn't play well at all...I think they are better then they looked. It will be interesting to see how they fare in the Region and Sub State.

Saw AC as well and I thought they would be way better based on the comments on here. DB and Karns are both really good however and both could be a final 4 team.

ORCAT...funny how your tune has changed.
