Good luck to the Cherokees and Coach Keith Elliott. They've earned their shot. 4th place finish in the regular season district standings. Won their opening elimination game in the district tourney, finished 2nd in the district tourney, losing to Ooltewah in 4 OT's and upset Cleveland in the region final in OT. They've earned their shot. NOW GO GETEM TRIBE!!!!

Congratulations to McMinn County & Coach Elliot. Have known Coach Elliott for many years since team camp days at Whitwell. Good coach & person who deserves the trip to Murfreesboro.

 

You're right about Keith.....a very deserving gentleman. He coached all four of my sons at various times as an assistant varsity football coach, assistant varsity basketball coach, and as the freshmen basketball head coach. He's a great role model for young men!

Congrats to the Cherokees, awesome performance tonight. Long drive back for Lawrence County lol.

 

Short drive back for the ref's. Its always tough to lose a game but LCHS was completely taken out of that game because of the ridiculous one sided fouls! I just hate for our seniors to have to go out that way.

Gee, sad to see people who blame their team's loss on the referees. :roll:

 

LC plays a very aggressive style of defense and McMinn County capitalized on that by constantly driving into the paint. I sat near a gentleman who played on the 1971 LC team who made it to state, and even he kept saying that LC needed to quit committing those stupid fouls. So you can blame that one on your own coach for not recognizing it. And the way LC was nailing those treys, I'd have glaldy traded McMinn's 2 point game to my 3 point game.

 

Great game between two teams who played on heart!

      I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"

      Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!

      I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
