Farragut vs Alumni Kickoff?

Alumni all-stars 6-0. The old "men" still have it. After a 1-0 half, there were questions if the older group had the stamina to continue to make the runs...Heard full squad not available due to ACT's, but not sure if they would have made that much more of a difference. it was nostalgic and entertaining to watch.

Lion is the Farragut vs Alumni game starting at 830 am Saturday as per eurosports or is this a misprint? Are you playing? Aren't these type games usually held in pre-season? You old-timers take it easy on the youngsters.

Per TSSAA rules if the school plays the alumni they must count it as a regular season game. Thus it must be played during the regular season as a counting as one of their 16 matches this must be the reason it is played during the season and they did

So it seems that Coach Culbreth scheduled this game in order to satisfy his multiple game suspension, and get him back on the sidelines in time for the Maryville game. This action (just like him refusing to sit out after he was red carded) is more evidence that Coach Culbreth thinks the rules don't apply to him. Pretty much negates all the defense and kind words that Lion101 posted about Coach Culbreth in my OPINION (and everyone is entitled to their own).

You can have whatever opinion you want, but I can tell you from a coaching standpoint, it is quite difficult to organize an alumni match. While it might seems as simple as "hey, we are playing on Saturday", most alums have some pretty busy schedules. To coach Culbreth's defense, this was most likely scheduled way before his suspension, and submitted to the TSSAA earlier in the year.

Game was scheduled for a Saturday morning at 8:30 after a 7:00 PM game the night before. Strange timing, especially on an ACT day.

Also, on Farragut's Eurosport Scoreboard page, this particular game is the most recent one edited or added, though it was not edited as a final score. The three prior edits for the Farragut schedule were game scores, and this one was edited or added at some point after the most recent of those three scores was entered -- the April 6th Knoxville Catholic game. The Alumni game was thus edited (or added) at some point between the night of August 6th and August 9th, one would suppose.

Could be a late add, which is well within the rules. However, since Farragut as of the time of this post has 17 games scheduled instead of the maximum 16, it will be interesting to see if any of the following schools come off the schedule: Oak Ridge, Hardin Valley, or Christian Academy Knoxville. Since Maryville, Bearden, and Knox Catholic are all conference games, those will have to be played.

From the Farragut Press article announcing the three game suspension:

Farragut's next three scheduled games include a huge home showdown versus powerful Maryville beginning at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 12.

Also included is a trip to West (played Wednesday, April 6, after deadline) and a home game versus Pigeon Forge beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, April 8.

No mention of an Alumni game in there anywhere. Wondering out loud if the Maryville game being the third game of the suspension had anything to do with an Alumni game possibly being added at a late juncture.

IF he did add the alumni game specifically to take up the last game suspension so he could coach the Maryville game, that's kind of TSSAA's own fault for making them count an alumni game as a season game.

Taking advantage of the rules? certainly. Saying the rules don't apply to him? not really. Because this is a rule that it be counted. It's their own fault. Does it seem sketchy? A bit. In the end, should it really matter? nope. If he is totally with in TSSAA rules for adding a game late.. it being an alumni game, and using it to take up a suspension. He is totally with in his obligation to do so. Like I said, if anything, all this does is showcase another ridiculous TSSAA rule.
