I don't know what to say about it. There are several unknowns. Jeff County has been in diseray for several years, but I understand a new coach with an impressive record as a Defensive Coordinator is now at the helm. It will take time, but Jeff County will get better. Jeff County had an impressive 31-7 win over a Knox Herayige school, which I think to be private based upon their schedule, and not a major threat.

Tennessee High has a strong program coming off a weak season, but has veteran strength. THS had a thrashing against 4A Johnson County with a 52-0 win. THS has proven in 1 game, 2 scrimages and a jamboree to move the ball very well, and has a solid defense, but each was against a much inferior opponant, or should I say a smaller school. THS looks like a good defense, and the new coach is an offensive mind coach with an exiting offense.

The game will be Thursday night, thanks to NASCAR. With the race in town, the school buses cannot get around, so on Friday of race week, it is a holiday around here. Schools are closed on Fridays of race week. Anyway...I am thinking Tennessee High will win a good game, score prediction 31-14.

Heritage is public. It's a blount county school and one of the two weaker schools, but that isn't really saying much since alcoa and maryville are both deserving of the "dynasty" title. Anyways, I don't really know much about either team, but I do know that Jeff Co. looks to be on track for rebuilding. Their defense is much better than the past few years and their offense looks great at most skill positions (hence the wins in the passing league) but the line is definitely learning together after replacing 4 of 5 starters. No predictions here, but I would say look for Jeff Co. to be much more organized and together than in past years.

These two teams played a few times in the 80s when it seemed like Jeff County was always in contention for a state title.

I expect this one to be a close game. Don't know much about Jeff County this year, so at least for me and most of the fans who will be in attendance, there will be an element of surprise. Based on what I've read, Trey Dodson appears to be a playmaker for the Pats on both sides of the ball. Undoubtedly both these teams will be a step up from their previous opponents. Jeff County usually has a decent following on CoachT so hopefully this thread will get more posts as the games gets closer. Due to the race this game will be on a Thursday, but I don't think traffic will be too bad THAT night.

I think I remember a Jeff Co thread last year about cowbells at a game. Do their fans bring and ring or was that their opponent? Anyway this should be a better test for the Vikings than Johnson Co was. I think the new aerial raid in the castle will have the Pats heads spinning in the 2nd half. Oh I see what Pendleton did. You didn't really drop the Patriots and a 40 game win streak. You just got another school and tell the team its just the same ole Patriots. Carry on. Vikings 35-20

So you are saying that Jefferson County is only 14 points better Johnson County ?

I think the Patriots will provide a little more firepower than that !

It all comes down to "We Shall See" !!

    • The Girls Basketball team I am a part of played for a gold ball this season. One of the biggest differences in the sports is that there is no field prep/maintenance in basketball.   Our baseball is successful and play 30 games in the regular season as well. All of the teams dedicate A LOT of time in preparing for their next opponent.
    • Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say they have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
    • I understand I guess it depends on the school you are with and the time you want to put in.  It’s evident of the schools that don’t put in as much times.  I would say basketball players put in as much time as any sport in our school system and this is coming from a football town.  Bball is a longer season than other sports.
