Saw the USN vs Ezell game last night with USN winning by 7 or so. This is probably the worst I have seen Ezell play. Didn't play with any intensity nor seemed to have any energy. But have to give it up for the play of the point guard no. 13 Nash. This kid can play. Noticed they didn't have Hodge. Heard he has been suspended. Good luck to both teams as they continue on.

USJ beat Fayette Academy in a sloppy game last night 60-36. Teams are starting to sag and triple team Glover but you can't do that with as much success this year as you could last. More outside shooters this year and well...Glover is better this year than last. If he can hit his free throws and the outside shots keep falling things will be ok. Team is doing a good job this year of playing unselfish (unlike last) and taking what the other team is giving.

Saw where St. George's beat JCS by 10 and Harding beat ECS by the same. Lausanne continues to roll and FACS is winning as well.

Seems to be another year of parity in the West.

Interesting note about Hodge? Any idea if it's long term or just a few games? Never heard of Nash.

Like I said before, Good luck to you guys until Feb. or so...then not so much.

I don't see how they could bring him back. I think it may be out of the schools control at this point.

It's unfortunate that a kid with a bright future gets caught up in the wrong stuff. We adults should use this as an opportunity to talk with and advise the kids we come in contact with. One bad decision...One wrong turn...and poof it's over!! USN will figure it out and backfill the spot. Smart coach and smart kids left on the team.

I agree with you 100% and preach it on a nightly basis. Not sure what happened here, but these kids need to understand just being in the wrong place at the wrong time can change life as you know it.

Another unfortunate incident.

At times USJ looks like a TEAM!

FA just couldn't hit the outside shot at all. FA and USJ will be a part of that first weekend in March. That is my prediction.

As for me I will be praying for Nilan. Everyone needs a second chance on a lot of things in life. Show me any one who has never made a mistake...won't see it in this lifetime.

Praying for the Hodge family at this time.

Been keeping an eye on Rob Marberry, FRA. Putting up some good numbers lately! Along with the other FRA Bigs of Bell, Bouldin, and Cannon seem to be playing well against quality competition. I am a little surprised about some of the wins out west though I don't know them as well. Kinda wish there was more inter-division play throughout the year so that the strength between East vs West could be gauged...but I guess that will be done only at the State level. Thanks for keeping things nice for the most part...might just be a quality post afterall.

Where's the celing for USJ's Glover? Mr. b'ball last season, and though I've not personaly been to one of his games this year,I'm hearing that he's stepped his game up to an even higher level. I believe that Lipscomb has his letter of intent(no disrespect)but if he's improved from last season, couldn't he have marketed himself to a larger(maybe D1)school?I'll have more later as I plan on seeing him in person, but this kid could be a solid prospect.

JR has officially signed with Lipscomb, which IS a D1 school. Could he have gone to a larger, absolutely. I'm not sure of the offers but I assume that he and his family felt this was a good fit for him and that he liked everything about it? I don't know much about the school but I expect him to make an impact and he won't be lost in the shuffle or never be heard from again, which happens more than not.

He has improved this year but he's also playing on a different type of team than in years past. Winning seems to be the main goal and not who outscores who. If you can't stop him, they will keep on giving him the ball. Ask Middleton. Triple team him and they got enough shooters to make you come out of before long. So far, it's been a joy to watch, I hope they keep it up.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
