  1. 1. Who Wins?

1ST off Mcminn did not run the ball against Farragut, the game plan was different than any other game. 2nd off did you really watch the game? Mcminn had wide receiver one after the other run by the defenders like they were standing still but they either dropped the ball or it was a bad pass until the 2nd half and they started connecting (note new offensive scheme). Mcminn gave that game away, they statistically dominated everywhere but the final score. As the season has went on they have fine tuned their running game. I seen OR last year against Bradley and was not impressed at all with the exception of that big lineman that went to Vandy. If that same team that won last year comes to Athens this year they will be in for a long night. I was around Riverdale in the 90's by chance and can tell you Mcminn is not as good but has more kids with speed yes.. As for UT they better start recruiting some of the speed around or Dooley wont be around long. SEC is about speed and that is why we are loosing aka (#10 cb) cant even say his name makes me so mad. Sweet Science I was basically giving you a break down of what I know about the TRIBE you can use this forum as an educated way to talk football or you can use it as a childish way to try and 1 up someone or put them down, but if you think your team will walk into Athens Friday night and walk all over the Cherokees, then you be that guy cause it wont happen they got to many athletes.

Not once have i said we are gonna walk all over your beloved Kees...I actually have said a few times it will be a tough ballgame...But, if you think Mcminn is gonna run all up and down the field on us all night, you got another thing coming as well. Yeah, you came away not too impressed, id say Riverdale was saying the same things before last years game...yawn... And who really cares if they outran Farraguts coverage all night long, It doesn't mean squat if you can't complete the passes good ole rockytop

We've got the easy part done....talking about it.......

I don't think anybody said anything about walking all over anyone. We simply questioned your assessment of the speed on a high school football team and with good reason. Those numbers would win national championships in two or more sports for your program. I think it's gonna be a great game, believe I said I would be happy to get a one point win and meant it. It's a shame your not impressed with the way the wildcats have been playing..... I hope they read this thread.

I guess according to Rockytop3 we are gonna have to get ready for a team like Riverdale was in the mid 90's it sounds like...I am just wondering where all these track stars were when i watched them play Farragut earlier this year? <_<

And where is yalls track team every year btw? They should be fantastic it sounds like? Haven't ever known of them being much of anything? Yeah, everybody ran a 4.5 according to thereself man...Not being a smart***, just saying..4.5 and 4.4 is not common around these parts..

I am not involved with Mcminn, so I don't know about there track team but I am guessing you will see it on Friday Night. Nevins is Basketball Star, don't know about the other kids and yes I seen how fast your running back is. Bradley didn't believe it either until it was 41-16 then they realized they only had 2 kids on the field that could run with them. Same team you guys played last year minus 3 players. Good luck Friday.

I do not know anything of your team other than what I seen last year. my first post was about what I have seen on Mcminn and was giving you guys a little feel for what to expect from them Friday and what their strengths are. Sweet Science wants to flip it into a chest bumping contest or mine is bigger than yours. I can not give facts on Oak Ridge because I do not know, but I can on Mcminn as I have traveled around and seen about 12-15 different area teams this year. As a whole Mcminn has more athletes than any team I have seen in SE Tennessee including CHATTANOOGA. Farragut is the biggest team I have seen, Mcminn is the fastest. Tell me what Oak Ridge has other than history from the 90's.

Again with the history? I have no idea I am not a follower of Mcminn throughout the years but I do know their district had to go through Riverdales district in the first round of the old playoff system back in the 90's. WHO DID YOU GUYS USE TO HAVE TO GO THROUGH.

the 90's? Actually we had won a title in every decade since the 50's up until the decade of 2000's...still made it to the title game in 2005 though, almost woulda had one in that decade, but didn't...sooo that would be a title in every decade up until the year 2010...Not too bad...All i did was simply question the all star track teams speed on Mcminn's football team, and you flipped out about it...All i said was #25 would outrun any kid yall have in an open field. Actually, i am still sticking by that..And just so you know, even IF it is true, speed in itself doesn't win football games..It helps, but i have seen a lot of TEAMS with decent speed beat teams with great speed ALL THE TIME. And obviously you know nothing of OR's history or you would know some of the great battles wee had with Riverdale.

History from last year, when the kees were already watching. Our QB will impress anyone who has an appreciation for gutsy, hardnosed football.A real warrior and if you had seen them this year or last, you would know that. #10 is gonna give you all he has everytime he touches the ball. #25s gonna pop a couple of big plays as well. #2,#5, #23 and #20 are going to get themselves open. #6, #75 #54, #16 are going to bring some lumber on the defensive side of the ball.

Don't know if that will be enough to win or not, but that's not history...it's a look into the future.... :thumb:

And everybody talks about history, and it doesn't mean anything? Do you believe that in world history too? History is what makes us who we are...If Mcminn Co even had a history, would you ever bring it up? I am pretty sure you would. I dont know about Mcminn, but OR players have a lot of pride, cause that jersey they put on has a lot of history to it..Just like Maryville's or any great programs does..It is what brings the kids out to play...No kids wanna play for a team with no history..Agree?

And so you know history in itself does not win football games either.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
