YOU GUYS GET ME You think it is funny to teach these young men that it is alright to break the rules to have an advantage? And yes that is what was taught! FRANKLIN's Coach knows the rules! Did we not already play a double over time game this year? Let me tell you what. I got there real early Friday and we walked around the school, I was impressed with your school. But this just proved to me you can not judge a book by its cover!!!! This HA! HA! HA! is not only bad show of class but also immaturity. Is this what you Franklin fans want to be known for? You asked for the rules and once they are posted, laugh!!!! Knowing that the rules were not followed!!!!

I would hope and pray no adult would teach my kids this lesson in life!!!!

Stop blaming everyone . Accept the fact that your team lost.

I would hope and pray no adult would teach my kids not to be a sore lose / cry baby

Please the games over , move on ......

You are still talking about class after what Smyrnas coaching staff did after the game? That throws everything you said out of the window. 2 of the members of your staff were escorted by police off the field after putting their hands on a referee and sheriff. So what you are telling me is that it's ok to show your players that if u feel u have been wronged to act like a complete fool,??? Game over. You lost.

This is copied from the rules book: Rule 3-2-1 The winner of the toss shall be given his choice of defense or offense first, or of designating the end of the field at which the ball will be put in play for this set of downs. The loser will have his choice of the other options.

After the first team on offense has completed its series of downs, the first team on defense will become the offensive team with the ball in its possession at the same 10-yard line anywhere between the hash marks.

If the score remains tied after each team has been given one series of downs in an overtime period, then the procedure shall be repeated with other overtime periods until a game winner is determined. In this case, there shall be an intermission of two minutes. At the subsequent meeting of team captains, the loser of the overtime coin toss will be given first choice of the options. If additional overtime periods are required, then first options will be alternated with no coin toss.

Guys, read the rules, there is no defer of the coin toss in overtime. The game officials screwed up and the Franklin coaches were just following the game officials instructions. If you got a beef, call the TSSAA, they assigned the officials. Sad that a playoff game has officials who don't know the rules.

Good Luck to the Rebel players against the Bruins.

If deferment is not an option in OT then clearly Smyrna got the wrong end of a bad decision. I too would be upset but whos to say the outcome would be different?

The Bulldogs have nothing to be ashamed of. A season that started out 1-3 and we still ended up third in the district and qualifying for the playoffs. Unlike so many had predicted. Coach Williams was correct when said that we did not execute offensively and had way too many penalties, we couldn't stop the pass, and in my personal opinion special teams was a joke. Ultimately that cost us a game. Franklin out played us. (Sorry Ship but it is true).

For those Bulldogs that will be on the field next year. The time to start preparing is now. We are lossing nearly every starting position on both offense and defense. So a bunch of you will have to step up and be a player in order to stay on the field with the schedule we play. many will doubt you and make fun of you. but only you will know your potential. So GET TO WORK.

To the Seniors.....it was wild ride. Many ups and downs. Disappointed with the way it ended. But not dissappointed with any of you. Good luck in the future. Go Dawgs!!!

We should have not been there to begin with. 16-16 with 28 seconds remaining and we get yet another penalty on the extra point . Moves us further back and then the extra point is blocked. Now this one play did not lose the game for us. It is just a glaring example of how we did not execute. We played ourselves into a hole all game. We would get positive yards and then give it back in penalties. Makes it tough to win a game like that. I agree the wrong call in overtime does change strategy but we shouldn't have been thier in the first place. All this being said it doesn't mean we didn't play hard. Just wasn't our night.

As a Smyrna alum, and learning more and more about the events of overtime, I am becoming more and more convinced that my Bulldogs have an argument that the officials did in fact cost them the game. If the officials had executed the overtime period correctly, Smyrna would not have settled for a field goal in the second overtime because they would have known that Franklin had already scored a touchdown. The officials' incompetency marred what could have been a great ballgame with several more overtimes to come, and yes, Franklin may have won in the third or fourth or even tenth overtime but we will never know.

Did the officials screw up overtime? Yes. Did it cost Smyrna the game? No. The officiating was questionable all night, with controversial calls going both ways in crucial situations (see pass interference call on 4th and goal). The fact is Smyrna had the chance to win the game in regulation, the first OT, and the second OT. Heck, all they had to do was make an extra point. Franklin bounced back from a controversial call that went against them by blocking a kick. When Smyrna was given the wrong call in the second overtime, they still had a chance to score and a chance to stop the Rebels. They didn't do it, they lost, game over. Let's not let all this talk over the officials overshadow what was one of the best high school football games I have seen in a long time. These two great football teams left their hearts out there on the field, let's celebrate their effort and not focus on an officiating mistake.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
