Rankin was at Riverdale at the time. Coach Brown had just left the football program. I remember walking down the hall during school and seeing Gary Rankin talking to some of the Cleveland students. Cleveland ended up with Danny Wilson, Rankin landed at defending champion Alcoa, where he has won the last 6 state championships.

Rankin isnt stupid. Rankin has always went to places that were stockpiled with talent. He went to Alcoa because of the current talent they have in Blount County.

Yes we know the man isn't stupid...just that the Cleveland administration has been stupid twice in not hiring him...He wanted to come to Cleveland...but that is all in the past now...

Cleveland needs to look no further than right up the road in Benton. Derrick Davis is one of the brightest coaches around. He gets more out of his kids than most in the area. If Cleveland is smart they will go after him immediately.

Yeah, we played against him when he was at Smith County. They ended up losing in the fourth round that year. He was good then, and that was 20 plus years ago.

I do think Davis from Polk might be a good hire... But he's a home-boy and has no good reason to leave.

Davis would be a terrible hire, first he'll never leave Polk, and second they wouldn't let him run his program the same way as he does there. They leave him alone at Polk and everyone knows in Bradley county no coach is left alone the last two were Jim Smitty and Monroe. And that's because they both won multiple state titles.
