The ballot is in my hand and is due by Monday, Feb 6th. Many media members will read your comments and positive comments are much more effective than negative ones. Tell us who TO vote for. Thanks

"The Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards will be presented to the top girls and boys in five classifications of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association at the state basketball championships in March.

This group is to include three finalists for Miss Basketball and three for Mr. Basketball in each classification. The winners of the coveted award are to receive the distinguished Mr. and Miss Basketball trophy with the other finalists being presented plaques.

The awards will be presented for each classification prior to the championship game awards presentation for each class, respectively. The presentation of the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards for Division II will be given on Saturday, March 3 at Allen Arena on the campus of Lipscomb University in Nashville.

The presentation of the Miss Basketball Awards for Division I, Classes A, AA, and AAA will be given during each championship awards ceremony for each class on Saturday, March 10 at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.

The presentation of the Mr. Basketball Awards for Division I, Classes A, AA, and AAA will be given during each championship awards ceremony for each class on Saturday, March 17 at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.

Any player at any of our member schools is eligible to receive votes, and I would encourage you to take a moment and give careful consideration to any player with whom you are familiar and who you think deserving of the Mr. or Miss Basketball Award.

These votes are a nominating process only. A selection committee that will include representatives from each area of the state will meet to vote on the finalists and winner of the Mr. and Miss Basketball Award for each classification. You may submit the names of up to three players in each classification for the awards."

District 1 has several good players, though I am not sure any of them are at the Miss Basketball nominee level just yet. In my opinion, two junior point guards are the District's best players. Unicoi County's Emily Edwards and Elizabethton's Morgan DePew are outstanding scorers and floor leaders for their teams. DePew scored 39 points in leading Elizabethton to a victory over Unicoi County January 24th.

Abby Miller-Sr-Livingston Academy.

Kat Carter-Jr-Upperman.

Abby is a real War Horse. As Abby goes,so goes the team.

Kat is the best rebounder in the Upper Cumberland. Shoots the three when the play is called.

I have not seen the Miller girls play, but I have seen Kat Carter and I would have her on this list.

Another girl, though she missed part of the regular season, is Kelsey Gregory from Macon County. Now that she's back Macon County should be ready to make another state championship run.

Check out Rachel Bell from Creekwood in District 11aa. She is just a sophomore, but she is long and quick. She is a team leader and she has offensive moves that are amazing. She lit Livingston Academy up at Thanksgiving with 26 points. They could not stop her. Rachel Bell is the real deal.

This is off topic for the Miss basketball talk, but Creek Wood's coach is doing an AWESOME job with that girls basketball program. Good luck to you guys this year!

Saw her at Martin last year in camps and could tell she had all the tools to be a special player

    • That was after the 2nd year of a 4 year cycle.  Since Covid we have been on a 2 year cycle.  So, there really isn't a "mid cycle" reclassification this time.   Idk if there's anything in place to address the issue of a school closing.  My guess is, nothing can be done.  This would be akin to the 1st year of a 4 year cycle, where a school has the 20% +/- but not allowed or even have the option to move up or down.
    • No reasonable lawyer would take up this case. I am not a lawyer, but I know school law in and out.  Similar situations just like this play out thousands of times each year across the country, even at the college level (i.e. Ole Miss)  The Plaintiff's never win...ever.  If I am wrong, please provide a legal precedent for me. I will be waiting.  https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39431892/judge-drops-ole-miss-player-lawsuit-lane-kiffin
    • Yes Justin Cruse was named head coach
    • It used to be, I think it still is, a change of 20% +/- gives reason to reclassify. Schools can choose to play up classifications but not down. Here is the mid cycle reclassification info on TSSAA.org When Memphis East changed from a regular public school to an "all-optional" school in 2017 the would've dropped to A but chose to stay in AAA in basketball (baseball, and softball) Penny was still coaching there and with the players they had they would've beaten A teams by 40 and slept walked to the championship. Other Memphis schools stayed in their classifications (mostly in basketball) until the next reclassification cycle. Of course this is the same time that a 4th class was added basketball.
