Marty Wheeler at Covington. How about this for his 4 years at our school:

 

Year 1 - 2-8 (we were coming off another couple of bad years)

Year 2 - 5-6 (went to the playoffs, lost 1st round)

Year 3 - 11-3 (lost in the state semi-finals)

Year 4 - 7-0 ( currently ranked either #1 in 4A (Max_preps) or #2 in 4A (AP))

 

This is an outstanding record, IMHO.

Witten at EHS. Turned a .500 team into conference champions

 

How is Witten as a coach. We hear a lot about elizabethon down this way, but I am anxious to hear what makes him such a good coach? I know they have a ton of talent coming through that school, is he a great motivator? X's and O's? Game manager?

I saw there was a topic titled "screaming coaches" that I felt really put some coaches in a negative light. It seems, way too often, that these boards are used to critcize good coaches. I am starting this topic for you all to name me the best head coaches/assistant coaches out there, across the state, today. What makes these guys good at what they do for a living?

I've got to say that I would not trade Ingle Martin at CPA for anyone else. I know he is young and has a long way to go to compare him to some of the awesome veterans out there (Coach Martin at Goodpasture comes to mind) but he has done a great job in a year and a half. Not only that, his defense coordinators (Kevin Smith in 2011 now at FRA and Ryan Taylor in 2012) have been incredible. Wins start with the defense.

Wayne Turner @ Tyner! Never has over 30 kids on his team. Plays anybody, anytime and any where. He is a great coach and even better person. My God got to love the 1970's Riddell tight shorts, JoPa shoes, the neck beard, he is a classic.

Coach Trapp at Dekalb! Very good coach. He has turned around a program that was considered a joke!! He has got the whole community involved and is teaching the kids great values for life!! Thank you Coach for all you do for the kids. TIGER PRIDE
