Who do you suggest I put on the ballot? I can recommend three backs in Class A. Negative comments do not work in this thread. This is the time to tell us who IS deserving, not who is not. This thread is for linemen only.

TSSAA Press Release:

For the sixth consecutive year, the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Awards are being underwritten by a generous grant from the Tennessee Titans Foundation. The TSSAA is very appreciative of the generosity of team owner Bud Adams for his financial support of these awards and to the Titans organization for its wide-ranging support of student-athletes across our state.

Thirty-three finalists will again be honored at this year’s awards luncheon. This group is to include three finalists for Mr. Football Lineman of the Year and three finalists for Mr. Football Back of the Year in each classification (Class A, AA, and AAA in Division I and Class A and AA in Division II). There will be three finalists, regardless of classification, for the Mr. Football Kicker of the Year award. They are to be selected via a vote of football coaches and selected members of the media. The winners of the coveted award are to receive the distinguished Mr. Football trophy with the other finalists being presented plaques.

These outstanding individuals and their schools are to be recognized along with their parents and coaches at the prestigious Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Luncheon, scheduled Monday, November 26 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center in Murfreesboro.

Each coach is asked to submit the name of up to three players in each classification for the Mr. Football Lineman of the Year Award and the Mr. Football Back of the Year Award. You are also asked to submit three players, regardless of classification, for the Mr. Football Kicker of the Year award. These votes are a nominating process only. A selection committee will meet to choose Mr. Football Lineman, Back, and Kicker of the Year. It is not necessary to vote for three players in each category, but that is your option. If you feel an individual player is one of the top three players in both categories, then you may list him in both. You may not vote for players on your own team!

In order to insure the integrity of the award, we need the vote of each high school head football coach in Tennessee, and that includes you. Please take some time, discuss this with your staff and return it to us immediately.

In order for your ballot to be counted, it must be received in our office via mail or fax (1-615-889-0544) no later than FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26. Please help honor Tennessee’s finest by responding today.

For 1A lineman, Friendship Christian has 2 deserving players. Tanner Martin is a 2 time Murphy Fair All-Sate player, which is voted on by the coaches. He will end up being 3 time All-Region. All this is based on offensive line play. This year he has also played middle linebacker. He is the leading tackler on the team, and the leader of one of the best defenses in 2A. He is currently being recruited by several D1AA schools in the state of Tennessee. Ian Isbell has also had one heck of a year. He is a Murphy Fair All-State selection and will end up 2 time All-Region.. He is a 2 way player as a offensive and defensive lineman. He also is being recruited at the D1AA level. These are 2 outstanding players, as well as students, on the defending 2A state champion team and either would be an outstanding representative.

AJ Harris, #73, NT, for Community Vikings, plays limited at LT (on 12 snaps he has 7 pancakes).

6.0ft 265lb junior, in 8 games has around 50 tackles, 12 TFL, 1 sack, 2 FF (from the NT position). Just ask Silverdale, McEwen, MT Juliet Christian and maybe even some district teams like Huntland, who was the best interior lineman they have seen this year.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
