Board of Control and Legislative Council Elections are next week

How many of you knew that the annual meetings of the three Grand Divisions are scheduled for November 5,7, and 8? Three members of the Board of Control and three members of the Legislative Council will be nominated and elected at those meetings. Do you know in which Athletic District and Grand Division your school resides?

 

Do you know who will be you school's representative at the meeting? How many schools actually send a representative? How are nominations made? Anybody campaigning or is it just a "good ole boy" system? Are there actually people who want to serve on these two bodies or are people nominated and elected because nobody else wants to do it?

 

What items are on the agenda for these meetings of the three Grand Divisions?

Doesn't matter. This came up several years ago and the Board of Control voted against it! Just like 5 classes to 6. The schools wanted 5 the Board of Control voted for 6. They do what benefits their own schools not what benefits their true area

This issue would be a change to the By-Laws which would be voted upon by the Legislative Council, not the Board of Control. Any vote by the Legislative Council regarding amendments to the By-Laws can be appealed to the entire membership, and each school gets a vote. A 2/3 vote of all voting schools can reverse the Legislative Council on By-Law amendments.

The legislative Council votes to separate public from private. The board of control does not have anything to do with that.at all.

What does it matter who is elected to the TSSAA Board of Control or Legislative Council? The facts are the TSSAA is broke due to legal debt. Whomever is elected will be in education and have little if any business experience to help the TSSAA work their way out of their financial problems.

 

With regards to all private schools being placed in D2 that would not be a wise financial decision on the part of the D1 schools. At the present time the TSSAA is collecting dues from both D1 & D2 private schools which helps the TSSAA. You also have D1 private schools hosting events for many of the minor sports which will not happen if all private schools are forced into D2. The rumor coming out of the private schools is that if all private schools are forced into D2 the private schools will leave the TSSAA and form their own Tennessee Independant Schools Athletic Association. It is also a known fact that the national federation cannot legally keep the new association from becoming a member and they will not take the new association to court because they have been advised their rule will not hold up in a court of law.

Privates breaking away is, I believe, an idle threat. If not, I say let 'em go.
