Coach Bland (HOSED) by Humboldt

Sounds gutless to me, like maybe they wanted junior but if junior did not want the head job then bland would stay in place, that is why rumors got out, they were making sure that they had their guy before they fired their guy. That my friends is the good ole boy way. If you dont like bland fire him, then go find you a coach, dont go find a coach, then fire him, obviously junior was talked to about taking the job before Bland was told he was fired. Look what Tennessee did, fired Fulmer averaging 9 wins a season with a national title, fired him and have not won 9 games since, idiots.

Saw some of the players yesterday and they were not happy with the way Bland was treated. Could not understand why he was removed if they had improved the program and won. Weird mixed message to send to the kids about what happens when you have success.

I guess they just won too much.

I agree that Humboldt will win next year, since their best players all return. They would've won with Bland and they will win with Reid. Years two- four of the Reid regime will tell the story. I have always heard that the players liked Bland so I can understand their confusion. They also like Reid so that should work out. It's just a mess besause of the lack of class at the top of the system.

Well I believe Bland if he says that there was no reason given. I do know that this community has wanted Reid to be the coach for some time. I did not really know it before this happened, but they are very vocal after the fact. It is also a fact that a school board member praised Reid at the last school board meeting and then added that there needed to be more "teachers from the hood" in the system. This same member has pushed for there to be a rule that only people born in Humboldt be in any leadership role. Very weird way to advance your schools. There is obviously no IQ requirement to run for school board.

It is my understanding that most of, if not all of the assistant coaches will be leaving. They have a bad taste in their mouth from Humboldt.

As do a large majority of the people in Humboldt for the school system. Don't believe me? Get on the by-pass any school morning and count the cars headed to private schools in Jackson...lots of Gibson County plates with paws, eagles, and lion stickers on the back, and a "few" headed to their "rental house" in the Medina school district.

This classless act will likely increase that traffic flow

Bruceton could use a good coach. Im serious!

so let me get this straight.....Humboldt fires a sucessful, first class, father figure coach who the kids adore, to bump up a middle school coach with limited HS experience??....from now on when I hear Humboldt referred to as "Dumboldt", I'll realize they're talking about the administration and not the students

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
