He came back before last season. He coaches linebackers, and is co-defensive coordinator along with James Mitchell. He is a good coach, but I don't think he is a Certified Teacher.

Well that's great!!! I knew he would be a good coach. He is/was hard nosed and he is a hometown guy that make those kids better!

If anybody doubts Joe Gaddis should be hired as the next Head Football Coach @ Oak Ridge just read this article that came from the 1993 ORHS yearbook when Gaddis was still coach. Personally, it gives me chills. Nobody understands and respects Oak Ridge football like this man does, NOBODY.

  • 4 weeks later...

Blade did a good job at OR, but does this really surprise anyone? It doesn't me. He stays 3-4 years everywhere he goes. In 3-4 years INDY will go through the same thing. I want a coach who wants to be @ OR. Did good for us while he was here, but i can't honestly say i will miss him and some of his coaching style. Like actually wanting a team small in numbers..Really? Why would you want less kids to go out for the team? Well, Blade did. Hope we find someone who wants to be @ OR long term.

How long does Gaddis stay at a School? Let's say the last ten years or so...

OK, Conspiracy theory, no. Just a man who will not hire someone who could do a better job than himself.

YES....Mullins hired Blade, just B*&ls*&(&*ed him a bunch to do it.

Aaron Green..NO he should get no credit for. He refused to even talk to him, pissed Bruce Pearl off and hired "what's his name" that stayed for a year instead. THEN.. he was told to hire Green.

As far as being involved in the athletic program instead of complaining about it, I would wager a small fortune I have spent more Saturday mornings and made more contacts the last 5 years working to raise money (succesfully I might add) than anybody else on this thread.

To those of you who have berated me for calling Mullins out......seems a few of you are getting pretty loose lips about Blade that we haven't heard before. Beating him up pretty bad for not being political now that he's gone.

You may not agree with me, but I'm not just puking uneducated opinions.

Who would you have hired instead of Blade?

LOD, Ken Green was the ORHS principal at the time, and he was the one that went against the search committees recomendation and hired Stanton. Stanton did the best he could under the circumstances. See, everybody involved wanted Joe Gaddis to come back and they were told no, Stanton will be your head coach. So, in my opinion Stanton never had the kind of support he needed to succeed from day one. Because the only one who wanted him was the principal, not all the other people involved in supporting a successful football program. Again, that's just my opinion. Stanton is a friend and former team mate of mine.

Ken Green is not the principal now. There will be a search committee. According to the news article the committee will sort through the resumes (over 100 at this time already) and decide which candidates will be interviewed. The final decision will be made by AD Mike Mullins, but the principal Jody Goins will have to ultimately sign off on the hire.

I wonder if we could get Stanton back then? LOL!

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
