Cheatham County has legislated itself into Stewart/Houston County East Campus. Terrible leadership beginning with the hiring of that slappy Tim Webb, followed closely by one of his cronies (who had been dismissed in Marshall County previous to his hooking up on the gravy train at Cheatham) Stan Curtis, has led to this.

The dismantleing of the athletic programs started prior to the hire of either of these jokes, with the threat of losing coaches and sports programs held over the county commissioners head, in order to secure more funding for the bloated Central Office at Cheatham County Schools. Over time, and 2 slapdicks later, even with incredibly hard work by parents and coaches, the burden has become to much to bear for veteran coaches like Finley.

That is all I have to say about that (spoken like Forest Gump)

Very true! Don't forget Dianne Williams and Dianne Proffitt. They are also worthy of mention. Also I just heard that Chris Dawson resigned as basketball coach today. I'm sure the people in Ashland City are in shock today. Who will be the next in line to

Is there an assistant coach who has a brother who helps out? Someone on that staff?

Michael Jackson the school's AD has been an assistant on Finley's staff for years. He has a brother named Joey who helped for several years before going to Lebanon to teach and coach this year.

Here comes the veer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You already know it Bob.

As far as the talk about the board goes I will not say anything "negative" because I know Coach Finley has been classy throughout this entire process and has been very thankful to everyone in Cheatham County for the time that he has been a teacher and a coach at CCCHS. If that's the belief that he has then it will be what I have to say as well because I know he wouldn't want for anyone to state otherwise.

This is a Stewart County Football thread and the past in Cheatham County is something that Cody will leave behind. I'm sure he is excited to begin and build a contending football program for the Dover community. It will be fun to see! Good Luck Rebels!

How has the lines been at SC the last couple of years? If Finley can develop O-Lineman then look out. The splitback veer when ran correctly is a pain in the you know what for DCs to stop. However, I think not having Jackson on staff will be a hit for Finley. He was a quality coach who put a near unstoppable offense on the field last year.

When Finley was the OC before becoming HC he was the offensive line coach. In fact, he was Jackson's position coach in high school in 97, 98, and 99. Over the last 15 years Cheatham has been a split back veer offensive team, a spread option offensive team, and an I-formation offensive team. The 13 backs who have rushed for 1,000+ yards during these last 15 years have all changed, the offensive scheme has changed too through the years, but the M.O. has always been the same. Beating people at the point of attack and playing smash mouth football has been very kind to Coach Finley's teams for a long time. I would expect this to stay the same in the future!

From the Tennessean web site:

Cheatham County will have two new coaches next year following the resignations of football coach Cody Finley and boys basketball coach Chris Dawson.

Finley, who has led the Cubs for the past 11 years, resigned on Thursday. He is leaving to become the football coach at Stewart County.

Dawson, who finished his fifth year as head coach this week, resigned on Friday. Dawson said he is pursuing other options at this time.

Both teams just came off their most successful seasons in years.

The football team went 10-0 in the regular season and won the District 11-AA title. The squad finished 12-1, losing to CPA in the quarterfinals.

The basketball team went 27-4 and won the District 11-AA regular-season and tournament titles as well as the Region 6-AA tournament. The Cubs ended the season on Monday with a loss to East Nashville in the state sectionals.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
