Why can't Tennessee fill a full team at these National level tournaments? Makes Tennessee look terrible. Then we fill weight classes with average wrestlers because we can't get all the top level kids in each weight class. Thankfully we got a few of our better wrestlers here so we don't get blown out as much as we could be.

I'm not bashing these kids at all. You misunderstood. I love that these average wrestlers (which some of them are and you know it) took advantage of this opportunity to become better wrestlers. I'm saying it makes Tennessee look bad when we can't fill a full team and get half our state finalists to be interested in an opportunity like this. That is a main reason why so many states are leaps and bounds ahead of us. So get your panties out of a wad.

Bringback at it again... - Josh I agree and am with you appreciate you giving your time and coaching up the kids who want to be there and want to get better from around the state, that is what any of these offseason tournaments is really about. It does not make Tennessee look "bad"! It is not some all important how does the state look, but about raising kids and giving them opportunities to travel and learn and try in the sport they love...

Once kids travel throughout the freestyle season, travel to Dixie Duals, Virginia Beach, Brute Nationals, and then go to team camp, a lot of funds are exhausted. I know a few of the elite wrestlers would love to be on this trip but simply could not afford it. So BringBack, throw some sponsorship over to Team Tennessee and maybe we can field a team to your liking.

In the off-season this year one of these average wrestlers has already:

1. Trained for a week at the Olympic Training Center

2. Participated in a whole season of Freestyle/Greco including the state tournament

3. Went to Jordan’s Camp in Ohio

4. Went to the UTC Satellite Camp in Clarksville

5. Regularly receives one on one training with a NCAA DIV 1 Champion

I don’t think he’ll be considered average much longer!

Everyone has their own opinion as to why the present top tier wrestlers from Tennessee do not participate in the various national tournaments during the Summer. It has become normal for graduating seniors to begin college classes during the Summer and they would not be able to takeoff the necessary time from school to train and compete. Some are going to attend the various military academies and they report for duty the end of June. Others are being recruited in other sports and must take the recruiting trips during the Summer months. Some wrestlers know that they do not have the ability or desire to compete at the next level and would rather spend their Summer months doing something else. One of the major problems is that a large number of the college coaches do not push attending the national duals and Fargo. At one time if you didn't go to the Junior Nationals you had no chance of going to a top tier program but that's not the case anymore. Tom Brands is the only coach that I know of that tells his recruits that if they are not injured they must compete in Fargo or he will pull their scholarship. After a close examination of both the Pennsylvania and Ohio junior dual teams you will find that their lineups are not dotted with the blue chip recruits from those states. I have come to the conclusion that if the trips were FREE you would not find 90% of the TSSAA state champions standing in line wanting to compete for Team Tennessee.
