We can look at the OR roster and know the talent is there. A HUGE factor is that these kids expect to win from here on out. The winning attitude should be the biggest improvement.

Just got to build an offensive line. Chapman, Kassner, and Hale are a good place to start. Others have to step up. Sophs are kinda then. The freshmen have a about 9 or 10 that could develop for the future.

I watched OR play Maryville the last few seasons before this year and always felt that OR had the talent to have won most of those games. I was a little surprised this year that they didn't go very deep into the 5A playoffs. They ususally played Maryville or Riverdale into the Quarter-finals or Semi-finals in 6A.

I always felt like they were a team that could hang with anybody and I think time will prove that they do very well at 5A and could still do well in 6A as well.

I think the difference this year is that we started over totally. Not only were we just average but inexperienced too. We didn't have much speed either. The coaches probably got about as much out of then as possible. I don't see any great speed next year either but I still think we'll be improved due to experience alone.

I watched that game on TV with Anderson County and I couldn't believe how much O.R. had fallen backward this year. Don't know much about what is going on with them and surprised me the other coach left.  I do know one thing that O.R. and Maryville have in common is our love for the football programs and we both have the type of fans to go out and rattle the cage of the school board if things aren't going well. I sure enjoy going to O.R. to play a football game because you can feel their rich tradition there at Blankenship Field as soon as you walk into the place. It's a feeling you will never get at any other high school in Tennessee. I hated we didn't play each other this year and I thought that was a big mistake.

That is very high praise coming from a Maryville fan Barney. Thanks. Just a real young team we were this year and a whole new philosophy from last year. Plus, that game you watched us play in we played a pretty darn good team in AC who is a senior laden ballclub this year and we were right there with them up until the end. The Cats should be a force the next 3-4 years.

Catswild, Do you you have the stats on the" fastest guy in the state".. I remb that guy being fast...

I have had issues finding his football records online.. you may have a good site. Please post it.

What do you think Blade's record would have been if he had stayed?

Do you think that he would have been the first Coach to lose to CC? with that, we had a lot of injuries that week...

No I don't but I was counting on you have those stats. Are you saying that he was NOT one of the state's fastest? I don't care what his record would've been if he had stayed because he DIDN'T stay. Same answer to the CC question. Since you've made this totally about Blade, have you asked him how he managed to lose three games with all of those D-1 prospects? And why don't you ask him what his record would've been had he stayed here and if he would've beaten CC. I'm sure he knows the answers to both questions.

You amaze me with your consistent defense of Blade when he is NOT under attack. I said he was a good coach and he knew when to leave and that no way he leaves before the 2012 season. Do you DISAGREE with any of those points?

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
