Overton's Terry Anderson retires

Metro will once again hire another Metro coach to swap schools and take over a new program.  This will lead to a search at McGavock that likely won't be filled until the first of April.  The coach will either be a current Metro head coach, an assistant on the staff, or some NFL name with little to no coaching experience.  The majority of Metro searches takes months to fill and seem to rarely be filled by coaches outside of the system.

This hire has me thinking. I know coach Anderson very well and what has made him a very coach is not just his knowledge of football, but his ability to coach in metro. I think there are intangibles more important than X's and O's. It is going to be interesting who gets this job and their ability to coach in metro. I am not sure every applicant has the qualities needed. I am sure they all know enough football .

Run sounds like the chat we had Saturday. Haha. Hogan and brooklynn Fitzgerald is a good coach and person. I've known him for years and me and buck used to run around on the field together. He does a great job with his foundation and helping kids. However, if you look at his last stop at SCA there was nothing but bad press. Whether it was warranted or not doesn't matter. SCA was accused multiple times by multiple people of recruiting. It was a charter school so no real rules broken there. The school was closed because of test scores. You have a coach and staff that have never once given anyone something negative to say to the press. Do you really want to bring in a coach that might do that? Some might even say it is a conflict of interest to have a leader of that type of foundation as a head coach. You know the kids are going to want to play for him and then you'll get the recruiting buzz. Again whether it is warranted or not I don't think Overton should go in that direction. We should see tomorrow or Wednesday.

    • Dyersburg may win back to back to back championships. They are going to be hands down the best 3A team. Plus their District/region/sectionals are not very good. They basically just have to make it to region out of a 5 team district that has a few decent teams. South Gibson will be okay but they graduate their best player and there is nobody in the region 7 or region 8 who is going to compete with them.
    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
    • Hoping to make the playoffs.
    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
    • He was a bruise but Aaron Dykes is HVA’s best RB ever.
