what has happened to nashville 3a basketball?

Several different factors have brought out the decline. First, the kids that were going to Hillsboro for football really aren't anymore to the same extent. There is a correlation there for basketball I believe. Overton's student population has drastically changed. The basketball team was very young this year. They should be better next year. The talent in the Antioch area is now split between Antioch and cane ridge. The entire athletic program of hunters lane has completely fallen off. Football is pretty much non existent. Haven't heard of any track stars since the 90's. Basketball team was decent in a down metro year. Mcgavock has a good coach and I think will improve in the next couple of years.

Remember that pc, Stratford, east, maple wood, and WC are all 2A.

Magnet and privates are taking the best athletes out of Metro public schools.

This year was a down year for most of the metro AAA teams. Hillsboro graduates many from it's team this year, Hunters Lane loses some this year and will graduate most everything after next season but should remain relatively strong and always be extremely well coached under Sewell. Antioch didn't have a good season and they also graduate most all of what they had.

 

The rest of the AAA teams were all quite young this year and the league looks to be much better next year. Cane Ridge (regular season champ), Hillwood (good guards, good 10th grade group) and Overton (many injuries,dressed 6 freshmen on varsity) all graduate only one senior from their team from this season. McGavock should also return a good bit of talent (Claybrooks, Williams) and an improved Glencliff team only loses 3 players (both guards, one post).

 

Look for things to pick up over the next few years in Nashville AAA

They dont hire good coaches. They hire from within.

Really how about hillwoods coach and antiochs. Both are outside guys. Mcgavock has a good coach as do Overton, hunters lane, and east.

Chattanooga (Hamilton County) only has three 3AAA schools now & only Ooltewah was semi-competitive this year (tied for 2nd in District 5AAA in season, 4th in District tournament, lost in 1st round of Region tourney). East Hamilton and Soddy Daisy were not competitive.
