Springfield's line manhandled a much bigger line in the first half on defense. The Gallatin backs could not find a way to move the ball. Barbee did a fantastic job running the ball and the fullbacks did their part as well. Gallatin made some adjustments but could not stop Springfield's running game at crucial times in the 2nd half while they did find more success in the ground game. Big congrats to Springfield for ending a long drought against the Wave.

 

No excuses but Gallatin needs to get the starting QB back or at least open the play book up for the sophomore. It was very vanilla tonight and I think that was on purpose. Line has got to improve and the defense needs to get more aggressive. And untimely penalties....but it's the first game and they should improve. Beech will not be happy about losing to HC and they have a very potent ground game as well.

Springfield grew up a lot in this game. Somewhat dominated the first half then held on in the second half. Running the last 4:30 off the clock without letting Gallatin have it back was a big step in a team learning how to win. The Springfield-Gallatin has been one sided since 1981, so this win will help amp the rivalry up! Looking forward to seeing if the Jackets can continue the hot streak next Friday against traditionally strong and very fast Clarksville Northeast.
