Coalfied was not a very good team, grant it they had injuries and a freshman QB, but they were small and not very deep. Our starters played half of the first quarter. The second string finished out the first quarter and the rest of the game was the 3rd team, and our freshman team. We threw 5 passes early in the first and ran the ball the rest of the game. Played 8 minute quarters in the second half with a running clock.

I've never heard of 8 minute quarters in a Friday night varsity game. Can someone explain the rules about that?

Thats what happened last night. I can't explain it but they played 8 minute quarters in the second half. I'm assuming both teams agreed to it. Years ago I was at a Christmas tournament and Goodpasture was playing Grundy County. They were up 50 at the half and trying to score a 100. The refs had the score keeper put up 6 minutes quarters and a running clock.

It sounds like this game will be either an offensive explosion or another 17-14 game.

You felt the need to stipulate 8 minute quarters in this victory, for those who weren't there to see for themselves? Thank you. That actually helped me get a better feel for the flow of the game, rather than just a box score. Imagine that.

yeah imagine that, I had the nerve to be honest about an opponent we played and describe to Alcoabasketball how I wasn't sold on my Irish turning the corner till we played you. Imagine that I had the nerve to not let the Coalfield game cloud my judgement. I could've took you're route and mentioned how we had 3 TD's called back or mention the score of the game like you did. Like my momma use to say stay out of grown folk conversations. I'm kidding before you get rip roaring angry. Edited by QSouth89

I was being serious. I didn't see the game. Your description actually helped me get a better feel for the game beyond the score. I assumed that was the spirit you intended it in. I do the same in my posts.

No harm done. It's all in the spirit of sportsmanship lol. In all seriousness this game will be a measuring stick for our team. ND was ok but didn't take advantage of Orr, and Coalfield, yikes. The Air Raid attack by the Warriors will keep us on our toes.

I've seen a prediction that had Catholic in the same region as Maryville in the future. What do you think?

I have not seen that but it mat be possible but many things are unsettled after the TSSAA rattled the Tennessee high school football world with the announcement of the super 32 schools.  It is all base on number of students. Catholic has about 675 students. Add the 1.8 multiplier and that puts them at about1200 plus. It is possible if Maryville does not move up.  from the proposed 5A. To move up there would have to be a slot so to speak. Catholic is in 4A, Maryville is in 6A but has a population qualifying it for the lesser 5A. In fact in the new super 32, Maryville is not included with the 32 largest high schools. They would have to move up to be in that classification. But before that happens, one of the designated super 32 schools would have to move down. I am not so sure any of the super 32 wants to move down since all super 32 schools qualify for the state playoffs even if their record is 0-10. Yes, even if they do not win a district game, or any games, they still qualify for the first round of the TSSAA playoffs.

    • No reasonable lawyer would take up this case. I am not a lawyer, but I know school law in and out.  Similar situations just like this play out thousands of times each year across the country, even at the college level (i.e. Ole Miss)  The Plaintiff's never win...ever.  If I am wrong, please provide a legal precedent for me. • Yes Justin Cruse was named head coach
    • It used to be, I think it still is, a change of 20% +/- gives reason to reclassify. Schools can choose to play up classifications but not down. Here is the mid cycle reclassification info on TSSAA.org When Memphis East changed from a regular public school to an "all-optional" school in 2017 the would've dropped to A but chose to stay in AAA in basketball (baseball, and softball) Penny was still coaching there and with the players they had they would've beaten A teams by 40 and slept walked to the championship. Other Memphis schools stayed in their classifications (mostly in basketball) until the next reclassification cycle. Of course this is the same time that a 4th class was added basketball.
