Looking forward to hosting the good people from Henry County this coming week. This should be the game of the week in Middle Tennessee as the upstart and undefeated Yellow Jackets host the defending state champions Patriots.

I am too tired atm and will give my take on this game later but from what I have seen from both teams thus far, we are in for a treat as this should be a good football game.....

I agree it would have been nice to catch the Pats earlier but Springfield played their best game of the year last night. This should be one heck of a game!

The Jackets were clicking on all cylinders last night.  Offense and defense and special teams.  we played a complete game.  Maybe we are peaking at the right time to give Big Red a good game

Patriots will come out of Springfield with a win. They just HAVE TO STOP THOSE HUGE SCORING PLAYS. Pats are finally getting in the groove.

Agree about the big scoring plays. It's weird, other than Ridgeway's game winning drive, teams haven't really been able to drive on us much all year. It's just mainly been big plays where we've given up most of our points. All 3 of Kenwood's scoring plays last night were at least 75 yards. Similar story in our other games as well.

On another note, the offense has looked much better these last couple of weeks.

Tell me a bit about this Springfield team. What are their strengths and weaknesses? Players to look out for? Etc.

On offense they run a variation of the spread similar to Rossview but the O-line is much better and athletic. They play 2 QBs, 1 being the "passer" and the other the athlete. The athlete passes good enough to keep the defense honest though. They have 3 different guys capable of rushing for over 100 yds which makes the offense effective.....

On defense they are good and fast up front. The WH O-line is very similar to HC tbh, but their RBs are not near as good, their QB however is better and a very good passer. Springfield off-set that by getting a lot of pressure on him. The coaching staff does a great job dialing up stunts to apply pressure and stop the run. The LBs and DBs are fast/quick and sure tacklers.....

I personally dont see a lot of points scored by either side as both teams strengths are defense IMO. Springfield is at home, has momentum, and has lost that "losing" mentality which is most important I believe.....

Jackets win a close one 21-17

Intriguing matchup to say the least. Springfield appears to be riding a wave of confidence and sounds like they are improving each week in the process. HC needs to bring its A-game for this one, because I am sure the Jackets will. There might not be a team in the state that wants to beat HC more than Springfield.

This one should be solid.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
