New Enrollment Numbers out Now (Link is Here)

Schools should be able to move up if that's their preference, just as they could during the last reclassification period of the current system. However, if this whole thing is about fairness and the TSSAA's gauge for fairness is enrollment figures, schools should not be permitted to move down. They could not previously, and there's no reason for that to change.

 

Of course total enrollment is far from a foolproof gauge, and the TSSAA has little concern for fairness. If they allow schools to move down they're admitting their standards have no merit and that they -- the TSSAA -- have no standards themselves.

 

Then we would see this as merely a matter of convenience for the TSSAA, getting rid of a z-plan they repeatedly failed to properly execute yet holding on to a ridiculously unnecessary 6-class system and the additional revenue it creates for our favorite non-profit.

Nah, some of the heavyweights in 5A might opt to move up into the Super 32 because there will be teams in the Super 32 who will wan to move down. Big school doesn't equal good football team.

Maryville is currently 6A. When the new alignment comes out next year they will be 5A Dave, unless they choose to opt up to 6A.

Why must everyone make the playoffs? The TSSAA can still have its 5 playoff rounds whether there are 32, 35, or 46 schools assigned, or choosing, to play in 6A.

Our district will most likely have Mo' West, Mo' East, David Crockett, Daniel Boone, and Cocke County.  With the absence of DB and Science Hill, it will be an easier district.  But a third or 4th place finish would possibly set us up against a team like Oak Ridge, Powell, or West in the playoffs.

You don't have to worry about Powell,it will be many years before they go to the Playoffs again.

You're probably right.  For some odd reason, I kept picturing the 2011 and 2012 Powell teams.

It will all but kill some schools forced to travel long distances. And forget about getting large gates from those same teams. This changes things but for every problem it fixes it creates another. Good luck to all.

Well I know for sure of at least 10 students that left during the school year. That's a shame
