Big Games in Memphis - Week 9

Drew, it was bad all night long. It was the topic of conversation with EVERYONE after the game. Even the Shelby County Sherriff Deputy that was working the game agreed.

When refs do that during a game, it really is rough to watch. Keeps the teams out of sync, the fans get restless, never a good situation. In the Henry County game, I think we broke a record for most penalties in a game - not a stat you want to be tagged with! Maybe refs as a whole are "down" this year. I have heard this about several games. Really a shame, maybe T$$AA should spend some of their money and make it better!

The Liberty vs. Millington game is so intriguing simply because of how much dialogue a few fans of both programs have had with me throughout this season :thumb:  .

Both think they are MORE legit State Title contenders than they likely are in reality but the winner of this game will seem like they would be able to set themselves up to win a game or two in the Playoffs, depending on seeding and First Round match ups of course.

Liberty's Ls are to Two Good Private school programs which could mean they are good but not that good or those two Privates simply had superior Depth and slightly better coaching (scheme wise, no disrespect). After looking at the Trojans's Ls (MBA and Arlington) they look just as good as Liberty's. I would NOT be surprised if that Hour plus Bus ride works against the Crusaders and they come out sluggish, get down and Lose... But I'll give Liberty the benefit of the doubt this week.

Good Luck to both

i guess we covered that 3 point spread u gave us...lol

My hat goes off to the coaches for not losing their cool because it's just downright frustrating for everyone. I've seen some badly officiated games before, but this took the cake.

The only good thing you could say about the situation is that they were consistently BAD.

You'd have to check that out. It was terrible. The game took 3 hours, 3 frickin' hours! Pros do that with horribly long "TV timeouts" I think I read we had 31 penalty flags, and that's coming from a well disciplined team. I just hate it for the kids and the coaches.

I personally have never seen refs so bad this year personally. Liberty has a good team this season lead by senior running back Devin Bush 14 carries for 295, Prayers for Kip Fleming for Millington got on a stretcher taken to the hospital got hit on a kick off tonight.

My man we normally have serious debates about our teams but, we could easily have a debate about which officiating crew was worse!!! Lol...this was the worst I've ever seen, and I've seen bad...I don't think an official can even see that many violations in one game. These guys were droppin flags on the snap but callin chop block, holding and I'm like the ain't even developed yet, did he anticipate the hold??? I don't want to hear nothin about kids need to be disciplined, forget that, this had nothing to do with our kids. ....I walked by one ref after the game he looked at me and I just SMH staring him.... it wasn't even worth me saying something to him. Wow is I can say rite now. .just glad we held it together and still got a shutout. ..

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
