East Nashville QB Isiah Upton out for the season

East Nashville senior quarterback Isiah Upton won’t be suiting up for the Eagles again this season.

Upton, who left with an injury during the second quarter of last week’s 19-0 loss to Nashville Christian and did not return, suffered a slight tear to his anterior cruciate ligament and will undergo surgery sometime within the next month.

Upton, a three-star prospect according to 247Sports, had accounted for nearly 60 percent of East Nashville’s offensive production this season, totaling 2,098 yards and 27 touchdowns in nine games for the Eagles. The 6-1, 178-pound Middle Tennessee State commit posted 2,950 yards of total offense and 25 touchdowns as a junior in 2013.

East Nashville (8-1), which managed just seven yards and zero first downs in last week’s defeat, travels to Lipscomb Academy (6-3) on Friday for a chance to secure the District 10-AA championship.

He could have finished the season with a specialist brace, but Upton, his family, and coaching staff decided the best decision was surgery.

Upton has a had a great high school career & finished no regrets. He'll be back 100% late April early May and ready for the MTSU season

That's good to hear.  Thanks for the update.  My son texted me earlier today and then I talked to him.  He was pretty upset over the news.

Explain how this is a blessing in disguise. He suffers a season ending injury after leading his team to an 8-1 record accounting for 60% of his team's offense. And he was also the starting point guard for the State Runner-up basketball team who will now start a sophomore at point.

Is it a blessing to miss out on playing at a top level with your friends in two sports? Seriously? These are times you will never forget AND never get back.

And if you think that playing basketball was going to hold him back from getting ready for MTSU you are an idiot. That one sport crap is ignorant thinking. Each sport develops different motor patterns. An athlete is an athlete.

I love the kid. He is everything you would ever want your son to be. However, the truth is he needs a redshirt year to gain weight and get MUCH stronger anyway. 170 pound guys on offense are speed bumps in college. He is not going to gain that size on a high school kid diet. The training table and professional strength coaches will take care of that.

Chief I think you are looking at it the wrong way. You are looking at the negatives. Getting hurt is awful. I hate it for him. Having to miss the rest of this season and all of his basketball season sucks. I hate that for him. Injuries are a part of every sport. You play them long enough you will probably be injured at some point. I personally see it as ablessing in that if he was going to get hurt at least it was after he got his offer from MTSU . If the injury had happened earlier he may not have gotten that offer. He also has plenty of time to recover. Mtsu knows about this kind of injury as the younger stockstill had the same type but worse.

As far as one sport I don't think anyone said anything like that. Upton was a two sport star and was supported by all involved. He probably could have even played baseball if he had wanted to.
