cool-thanks-probably will since my youngest gets up at the butt crack of dawn!!

When Maryville has the ball...  The interesting matchup in this game is how GQ will choose to attack the Oakland D that is physical in the trenches, and athletic at LB and DB positions.  I think this game will go well into the 2nd or 3rd quarter and GQ is still trying to feel the Pats out and "crack the code".  I expect the Rebs to find different ways to get the ball in the hands of #1 #28 #2 and #43.  WR #6 could have a sneaky big play in there as well, he played great in the semis last year vs Blackman.  The key for Oakland's D is to continue to make the game physical at the LOS.  Find opportunities for turnovers... i.e. strip the ball carrier when he's held up, intercept the ball when it's 50/50 between the WR and not just knock it down.  Oakland's D has played lights out for about the last 10 weeks (only giving up 7.7 ppg) so they know what it takes to play great defense.  I expect this to be a great matchup this Friday night, but I have to give the advantage to GQ, he will eventually crack the code.  It may be late and it may be only for 1 score.

When Oakland has the ball...  This matchup could ultimately decide the outcome of the game.  Oakland has physical, nasty OL.  They run the ball well with #11 and #1, both can catch out of the backfield.  The Pats finally settled on playing one QB and #19 played really well since he took over full time.  He's proven he can run the ball when called and even extend plays when he's passing.  He throws the ball well to a multitude of dangerous targets.  #6 #7 #8 can all be playmakers at any given time.  #6 is such a big presence with his size.  It will be interesting how the Rebs choose to defend the Pats.  Even though MHS has GQ calling the offense, I think he would tell you that the defense is the strength of Rebels this year.  The secondary was the big concern in the preseason with everyone new except for #3.  But this group has proven to be another stellar group to add to all the returnees in the front 7.  This is no doubt the best DL the Rebs have had since GQ took over.  Not only are they talented but they have depth.  The LBs can all run well and tackle with an attitude.  #27 is only a sophomore but will probably go down as the greatest LB the Rebs have ever had (I know that's calling for a lot of praise with the MHS tradition).  This matchup will be decided by how effective Oakland is running the football, and if they choose, can they be successful with some matchups on the outside.

Special teams...  This has to favor the Rebs but it will be interesting to see if Oakland can hold their own.  Can the Pats get a big return if the MHS kicker does not put into the end zone?  They are capable.  Can they block a kick or punt?  The MHS punter has been phenomenal given the few opportunities he's had to punt this year.  When Oakland has to punt, can they generate enough positive field position so that they stay level with the Rebs? With the backup kicker, Coach Mac has to really consider when to try for 3 or go for it on 4th down.  MHS has the advantage on paper but games are not played on sheets of paper.  If this matchup stays level, or if Oakland can create big plays with returns or blocks, then we're in for a really great football game.

In doing my aerial recon the "O-Zone" reminds me a lot of Siegel as far as the distance from the field and the fence outside of the track. Are all Rutherford stadiums pretty much the same?

All the HS stadiums in Murfreesboro are nearly identical.  Riverdale and Oakland played their games at MTSU for years.  When they opened Blackman and Siegel, they decided to build on-site stadiums for all the schools.

Get out of fantasy land. You play against the worst talent in the state all season until round 4. 7-AAA schools jv would go undefeated with your schedule. Your d line will get pancaked all night.

When's the last time you have seen an upper east tn team play? Worst talent, nothing stopping you from bringing your Jv on up here. My friend your in for a rude awakening come Friday.

Great analysis thanks! :thumb:

    • Dyersburg is going to be good, really good. As mentioned, they have a lot of talent on the way and the trio of Chelby, Joya, and KayKay will only be better with a full season together under their belt. To me, playing in Murfreesboro two consecutive postseasons will only serve to make them more dangerous if/when they stand among the final eight teams this March. Experience, good or bad, always makes you better. And not only do they have experience, they know how to win there. Schedules are coming together for all of the teams and I am excited about what I am seeing on the preliminary drafts on Dyersburg’s schedule. I know I am being a tease, but it’s simply not my place to announce what another school is doing. With that said, I won’t go into specifics. However, I am excited about renewed home and away contracts for the non-district portion of the calendar. I think west Tennessee will have a lot of interest as well.
    • What does everyone have in the final 8? In no particular order. 1. Eagleville 2. Gordonsville 3. Greenback 4. Oakdale 5. South Pitt/ East Robertson-- not sure 6. Richland 7. Halls 8. Union City
    • They struggled to field a team last year. I don’t see them being much better?
    • sx good two know thay didun't waint that entarr citty two see yeller/red......
    • Couldn’t agree more.. Tate is a special kinda player , but fortunately for us we get a best of 3 series. I think our pitching is better than last year when we made the trip to west tn. Should be a fun 2 or 3 games.
