GWAVE1
Not a Gallatin supporter so my opinion is from afar. For the answer to this look at the 2 feeder middle schools for the past 5-6 years. For the most part Shafer (100% go to GHS) has been way below average while Rucker Stewart (60 to 70% go to GHS) has been pretty good. More about the Jimmys and the Joes than the X's and O's. Look at the top 4 in the district, lots of "home run hitters". Not meant to disparage current players but just a fact in my opinion. They did have the best freshman team they have had in the past 7 or 8 years this year for what that is worth. It ain't coaching folks. Those good Rucker years are feeding 2 programs. Most of your skill players are at Gallatin and Station Camp. Those are the kids that are making plays for both teams. However, I have never believed that a good middle school team makes a great high school team. Players quit, transfer, do not pan out etc. Some do go on and make quality impacts but it is not a tell all.

Great middle school players we don't always equal good high school players, for a variety of reasons.

Just because the middle school and freshman teams do well, it doesn't mean it's a sure sign of future success. Likewise for bad middle or freshman teams. You still have to develop what you have and play to their strengths

Kids quit, transfer, drop out, move away, stop playing due to family or personal issues, etc. Basically there is this thing called life that halts many good athletes from continuing to play. thegreatone36
^ MJ's strength and conditioning is one of the better ones around. They work hard in that department.

But the allure of grandeur to not have to compete with the others draws some away so neither win.
thegreatone36
I wasn't taking about S&C. I was talking about genetics.Gotcha. Although, currently MJ's lines are pretty big. Don't think they are just getting whipped and handled up and down the field at all. Speed may be a different thing. All that size makes me wonder why the run spread. I think they realized they're not going to beat the RuCo schools in the wing. New system will take some time, but I believe it's their best bet to compete at the highest levels. Not sure what RuCo has to do with it, wouldn't even play a RuCo team until state championship unless they scheduled one. You gotta fit your offense around your personnel, not the other way around. I actually think the Wing-T was a good fit because they were just as likely to throw out of it as they were to run. Agreed.. Everyone wants to run some variation of the spread offense. Problem is if you don't have the athletes to make people miss in space, you are wasting your time running it.. MJ is too slow to have success in the spread. With that OLine they need to establish a power run game and play good defense.. Limits mistakes and shortens the game
