After that 2012 Haven game  Quarles said something like "We had plenty of other chances to win, you can't let it all fall on one play"

And I agree totally . Maryville has responded just like they should have the last 2 years . Life's not always fair , but you can control just how hard you work and how much you prepare to become even better than you were when you lost .

This story is beyond Ignorant , Sports has always had judgement calls . I could care less about the 2012 game now , Whitehaven won , period . I actually agree with BHS on this , Mark Dodson's 318 yds was the reason Whitehaven won . I knew our boys would be back , and most of us wished that Whitehaven would be there , but we have no control of that .  As George also said , " Not all your wins always show up on the Scoreboard " .

I would be surprised if the courts rules in the losing teams favor, it would open up a can of worms that would have every program that feels they were short changed to be in the courts, society is so up side down anymore with being cheated its sinful. Hate it if the ref blew the call but as someone said Maryville would for sure have a complaint if we want the courts to decide,

pepvol is right. Mark Dodson ran wild on us that night and even though I know it was a blown call we set our self up to be in that bad situation. When we were driving the ball and fumbled I knew then we blew our chance to put Whitehaven away and gave them new life. When I watch Ole Miss play I always look forward to seeing Dodson because we got to play against him twice in high school. The only thing I wished from that experience is to have replay just for that one game each year in order to save a firestorm afterward.

I don't want to see anything come of a court deciding a game either.   The only point I was making is the official didn't know what the penalty was for the infraction.  THAT is unexcusable.  These guys are paid to know the rules!   A judgement call i.e. "pass interference" or something of that nature should never be questioned, it IS a part of the game.   Not knowing the rules IS NOT.

At all levels of baseball, a protest is allowed for a misapplication or misinterpretation of a rule but NOT for judgment calls.  If a baseball game is protested, typically umpires will stop right then and get it right (correct the issue if necessary) to nullify the protest by calling a “higher up†for the correct ruling.  In football and most other sports, there is no game time remedy to correct the misapplication of a rule during the game.  I agree that “judgment calls†should definitely be lived with because they are just part of the game (in all sports games).

In the Maryville game, there was a gross misjudgment of the “lineman down fieldâ€, but not a misapplication of a rule.  However, in OK, there has been a gross misapplication of a rule.  That’s why the OK situation is totally different than the Maryville situation for me.  Consequently, I’m not sure which side I fall on in the OK game issue.  Maybe, football should develop a procedure and institute a game time remedy to stop the game for a few minutes and call the district or state office when referees do not know the rule needed.   Stopping a game for this reason would rarely happen since most refs know the penalty rules.  Those refs would have gotten it right with a phone call and there would have been further problem. JMHO

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
