District 12A Tournament Picks

I'm not sure what having a #5 & #6 team in the championship has to do with 'strength' of the district. Strength of spirit? Sure. End of season equality, maybe. But just because the final result in the district is not expected, doesn't say anything about how weak or strong the district is.

I agree watchman72..... Yes Perry Co. was 10-0 in a district that may be down but they were also 13-1 against their other opponents including 2 wins over a 20-7 Decatur County Riverside.

I just have to say Go Lady Lions!!!! It's time to give credit to where credits due. I have gotten to see them play a few games this year and have been impressed with the team even if they had a losing record in the district. They have overcome a lot by only having the Davis girl half the year. She seemed to make them go but they have adjusted very well without her right here when it counts. Also, I'm not sure folks realize but there is less than a hundred students at their high school with only about 50 girls. That's being behind the eight ball from the start. Just ask Collinwoods football team this past year having around a 100 boys to choose from to play. So my hats off to these young ladies, coaches, and the people from the Clifton community that have put the time in. Also, I'd like to challenge the rest of Wayne Co to come out and support these girls Monday night in the championship against Summertown. These are people u know, people you've grown up with. Take a bow Lady Lions, it's been a long time coming, you deserve it.

Well I was wrong on these two. A #5 vs a #6 in the championship. This goes back to what I have already said, this is the weakest this district has ever been. The #1 team is 23-1 going into tonight and they get beat. This has to be another history making moment. When is the last time the two bottom seeds played for the championship? I will say this, Summertown is doing it with Freshmen, so they deserve some credit for getting there. They should be tough for the next three years.

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks."  You've said it three times in this thread alone...you think they're weak...we get it, already.  Let it go!!!

I have to agree with Rings--Clifton has done well. I have been saying for two years now that they were a team to look out for. After having been beaten down for so long and then have the season they had 2 years ago was a huge swing. I wish they would have made regions that year but got upset by PC in the play in game. They are playing like the team I thought they would be and doing so at the right time. Your fans brought a great crowd to the game last night. It is so much fun to be a part of something special, even if it is just making or winig a district championship. To go so long without makes you appreciate it that much more. Trust me, Im a Vandy fan-I feel your excitement.

Hats off to Summertown and Frank Hughes.  They have done something that's hard to do, and that's come from lower seed bracket and fight their way to the championship game.  I think some are underestimating this districts strength.  Time will tell on how the teams will do, but it would not surprise me if we have 2 sub state teams come out of this district.  I think they will do well in those matchups as well.  The think I like about this district is that these teams will get after you defensively.  If you play a good brand of defense, you can be in any game that you play, even if you are an average offensive team.  I hope Loretto can get their big 6 ft post player (Burden) back in action, they missed her last night and the senior guard (Brodie) who was out with the flu.  Coaches for Summertown and Frank Hughes, congrats on a job well done.

Who would have thunk it? The bottom 2 seeds in District 12 in regular season, #5 vs #6 will play for the championship. It's been a very close played tournament with the biggest win was by 6. At least District 11(our opponents in Regionals) are either 0-20 or 1-19 vs District 12 in regular season. Not sure of the results of Richland @ Collinwood.

Collinwood won that game.

No doubt all for D12A teams will be contenders against D11A, and I fully expect to see Loretto and/or Perry Co in the finals (now that the under-estimation of #5 & #6 is over)...but you play defense like Frank Hughes or Summertown have been playing and they're not out of the picture.  Hate to see D12A beat each other up for the Region Title, but it should make for some good games, now that the #1 and #2 seeds realize that it's not a shoe-in.

Imagine if Loretto OR PC had won last night.  that would have set FH OR Summertown up for a shot at the Regional Title game without facing either Loretto or PC.  THAT would have been interesting.

Not only was Burden and Brodie out but one of the starters was playing sick.  Had to take medicine during the game.  I think once you get everyone back healthy Loretto will be okay, hopefully.  On the bright side Perry Co. and Loretto will be in opposite brackets in the Region.
