Coffee County Boys Job

The coach was fired because some parents didnt feel as though their kid wasnt playing enough. Complained to the principal and ad and didnt get the results that they wanted and then jumped to the board members and they canned him. The best year that Coffee Co has had was when Micah was playing and they won like 18 games. The problem here is that other than the parents running everything, Micah is sitting there waiting to get his teaching stuff done and then the job is his. So a new coach would only have like a 1, 2 years max before it would be taken away and given to Micah.

If you are winning, a lot of problems go away.

I know Micah, he is an awesome young coach with a bright future.  He will get a head coaching job someday, maybe this year.  But its the X's and O's that will keep any coach employed long term; and that would include Micah.

What sport does this school win in except softball?

Volleyball won the district and went to regions this year. Solid program year in, year out.  Track program is at the top of the district every year; with several going to the state as well.  Golf teams are solid as well.  Girls finished 2nd in the state last year.  Baseball has had winning seasons almost every year.  Many district championships and has a good team this year as well.

So yes it is more than a softball school.

I'm glad everyone in CC knows Micah cause no one else on this board has a clue who you guys are talking about. Good luck

Micah Williams assistant coach this year.  Home town guy.  Had his number retired at Coffee.  3 year starter and probably best basketball player to come out of the program. Graduated in 2005 I think. Played at ETSU and played pro ball overseas.

Is that more clear?

I agree that X's and O's can change the outcome of someone keeping a job or not. But we have to remember, this is HS and not college ball. You dont fire a HS coach midseason for X's and O's. This is the result of the typical politics of Manchester and the fact that the right parents can get rid of you no matter what the administration says. Which is problem #1 with this job. The second reason is Micah Williams. Not that Micah had anything to do with the firing, not that he is not going to be a pretty good coach, none of that. He is the second problem with this job because he is there in waiting. In a year or 2, when he is finished with his degree/certification, then from all indications, the job is his. Now, they should go on and just give it to him anyways, because it would take a very desperate coach to take that job for a year or 2 and know that you will be on your way out. Micah will be a really good coach and they should quit beating around the bush and jut give it to him now.

But the majority of these sports are girls sports or athletic ability is not a necessity for success. Baseball is the one exception. I am not sure what they have done recently in track, but they are not winning any of the sprints or jumping competitions. Maybe long distance, but that doesnt convert over to basketball/football success.

They made a big mistake wanting to play freshmen. They will get killed in football and will only get worse because no one wants to play on team that can't compete.

Couple that with the fact that they are now in a football region with all of the Murfreesboro teams, they dont have a chance to make the playoffs! I understand that they are a very big school numbers wise, but outside of this freshman class they are zero, none, nada athletes in that big ol school and they aint that many in that class when you consider there are something like 700 freshmen at the new 9th grade academy.

He was a very good player at ETSU. Would play in the summer Rocky Top league at Bearden when it first started. He played at ETSU the year they almost upset Pitt in the NCAA tournament

Wow!!! That is a lot of freshmen but at that level there is no way they can compete.

    • The Girls Basketball team I am a part of played for a gold ball this season. One of the biggest differences in the sports is that there is no field prep/maintenance in basketball.   Our baseball is successful and play 30 games in the regular season as well. All of the teams dedicate A LOT of time in preparing for their next opponent.
    • “facts” or better yet ‘opinions’ had been up for weeks/months. that’s not why the thread was deleted. get over yourself.
    • Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say they have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
    • Crazy how the thread just gets deleted when facts come out.
    • I understand I guess it depends on the school you are with and the time you want to put in.  It’s evident of the schools that don’t put in as much times.  I would say basketball players put in as much time as any sport in our school system and this is coming from a football town.  Bball is a longer season than other sports.
