One of the best football players in the state is not even getting his name mentioned on this board in regards to Mr. Football. Spring Hill's Jason Hoath is one of the most complete players in the state. As a QB he ran for 1000+ yards AND threw for 1300+ in his first and only year in a new offensive system. And oh by the way, he scored 27 touchdowns. Pretty good numbers.

My point exactly. Jason Hoath is not getting proper mention as a Mr. Football candidate because he was not on a winning team ... that's a shame. Never mind the fact that he faced a new coach, a new offensive scheme, and starting at middle LB for the first time and he responded by more than doubling his offensive numbers from a year ago. Ask any coach who had to face that kid the last three years and they will tell you what kind of player he is. This young man is more than deserving of careful consideration for this award but the short-sightedness of people who only get their information from reading the words of "experts" on this board cause players like Hoath to be overlooked.

First of all, I don't believe this board is responsible for anyone being nominated or not being nominated for Mr. Football. That is handled, I believe, by the TSSAA, coaches & sportswriters. This is only the best high school sports information board available in the WORLD.

As for Mr. Hoath--He's a stud. When Spring Hill played us (Tullahoma) I believe he passed for around 270 yds, and I don't remember how many rushing yards he had, but it was impressive. Also, he was responsible for what I believe to be the only team that lead Hillsboro at half time in any game over the last 2 or 3 years. (not counting playoff or championship games). I realize he has a team around him, but 90% of their success is a direct result of Mr. Hoath. Why he has not been mentioned, I don't know, but it is certainly not the fault of this board or anyone on it. I don't know what college is scouting him, but I guarantee he's well known in the recruiting circuit.

Winning SHOULD be a variable. It's just like the MVP in baseball numbers are great, but did those numbers help contribute to a winning season??? When you have nothing to play for you can go all out and @@@@ up the stats (not saying he did that) but a Mr. Football should have excellent stats that helped his team win. That is why Adarius Bowman should not win in his division. He played in those big linebacker pads all year trying not to get hurt.

The Mr. Football is an INDIVIDUAL award, therefore only individual qualities and statistics should be viewed. Thus being an individual award, the team a player is from and that team's record should be irrelevant.

As far as Jason Hoath is concerned, it is a shame he isn't a finalist. Anyone who has ever seen him play would agree. Where ever he goes he is sure to make an impact.

    • Wouldn't the easiest move be to move McCall up to HS Principal and have Gulley take over as MS Principal?
    • Bounder, you are correct. And it is so easy today. As a civilian today, I can check my 6th grade grandson’s grades in real time. 46 years ago as a young head coach, I knew who were my weak students and would do a weekly check. A decade and 1/2 later as an administrator, I would ask guidance for attendance, and grade reports as I did my own discipline reports. 5 years later I could run all those reports in a few minutes. today Text one the Secretaries and they can create a red flag report only printing the names with D’s and F’s or attendance and discipline issues. You are not even dealing with a whole team. The only problem with modern technology is someone who might not want to know.
    • No I didn't,  I just know jellico lost a few and should in playoffs tho....but they have alot coming in the next few yrs
    • The buck stops with the head coach, he should have know if any of his players  were not making the required grades. Either he has someone checking weekly before games and reporting to him or he should do it himself.
    • Freedom Prep has discontinued their football program. These are the teams that were on their schedule in case you are looking for a game:
