it was a private that won 3A last year; but it was a PUB that won the year before that....

in the last 10 years, Fairview has been in the playoffs every year but 2005 (9 years in a row); of those 10 years, Fairview has been knocked out of the playoffs only 2x by a private

in that 10 year time frame, Booger thinking the 3A Championship has split between PUBs and Privates...in 2A where Fairview spent a few years, a private school has collected only 2 out of the 10 Championships

it appears that numbers support something other than Privates being the demise of Fairview's championship quest

Booger sees the Yellowjackets having another strong season with 7; maybe 8 wins and dont think it will be a private that ends their season

Booger just sayin :thumb:

hard to pick a winner fairly in 3A with the open enrollment and private schools mixed in! sad to say but the public schools wont be in the final. Fairview would be my pick if it was between the public schools

Fairview is open zoned, my college buddy lives and works in Brentwood and all three kids went to Fairveiw HS. Never had a problem enrolling and attending even thosse the bus that wwent by his house went to Brentwood. Edited by UpperCumberlandMan

No no no Boog.... just not true. Fairview is definitely open zone. On there website is a form titled "request to attend out of zone school". A student can fill one of these out and be granted permission to attend any one of the nine high schools in the county.

sorry for the quote! Def news to me!

What Fairveiw needs to do is be selective open zoned. Go get 3-4 football best players from Page, Independence, Cenntenial, Brentwood,Nolensville, and Franklin. Those 24 football players won't be enough students to put you up to 4a, but the population zone you would be pulling ball players from would be bigger than most 6a schools. Go from 60 players to almosst 90 players and basically have a Williamson Co all-star team. Do it the Alcoa and CPA way and then you have a chance to compete with them. And the best thing is, its legal under current TSSAA rules.

As you probably know, I have been on the open zone issue for years. Not that I have a problem with it, only that it is a glaring issue that the TSSAA has not addressed as compared to the privates who have a 1.8 multiplier, don't have a "home zone" that automatically brings in talent, and have high tuition as a deterrent to many good athletes attending. Once the TSSAA made a decision to try to level the playing field by separating D2 out and adding in a multiplier for D1 privates, they then have a responsibility NOT to dodge the more complicated issue of open zone schools.

So my question centers around the fact that some schools are "technically" open zone, but realistically, they don't have many out of zone contributors on their team, as compared to other open zone schools that have quite a few out of zone athletes starting or contributing to their success. Not being familiar with Fairview, which category do they fall into?

Fairveiw would be in the "few" category.

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
