I wonder how OR got the #1 ranking? I admit a win at DB is somewhat of an accomplishment, a struggle to win over Clinton certainly is not. The pub about Higgins could sway some voters, but anyone that thought OR was the best 5A football team should have they're voting privileges revoked.

Oh yeah. I told my buddy if we were #1 in the state then I am a porn star.

I really don't think either team will lose again this year. At least in the district. And they will meet again. I also think Fadnek should be the QB and Dunbar a slot back or receiver. But I'm just a old geezer so what do I know? But I do know tonight Sucked with a capital S.

adalum is right about the first year with the star on the helmet; it was '77 which was Coach Sparks first year at Farragut (Coach Courtney's 1st year, too, on the FHS staff) and the last year playing over on the south side of Kingston Pike. For the Oak Ridge game at the old stadium that year, foreshadowing a similar event that would take place during the Farragut/ Oak Ridge game 20 years later at Blankenship, half the lights were out on the visitor's side the entire night. By the way, the Admirals only loss in that '77 season was to Oak Ridge (21-6 in the schools' first-ever meeting on the gridiron), but that was enough to keep them out of the playoffs. (Thanks to Clyde Floyd for documenting so much of the Farragut football program's history.)

As for the star, it's a common navy/nautical symbol (e.g. Commodores). So Bill Bates had already worn the star (albeit a gray star on a navy helmet) for a couple of seasons before making his impactful impression with the Cowboys a few years later.

Tyler is as fine a person as you could ever hope to meet. He landed a high school teaching and coaching gig a few years ago, so his Friday's -- and every other day in the fall, come to think of it -- became a lot busier than they were during his time providing truly colorful commentary.

Actually, Bates never wore the blue helmet with the silver star. That helmet was implemented by Coach Bland in '81 (Stone, Moeller, Irwin, Jeter, Bland, etc... outstanding team). The blue helmet remained through '87 - Coach Fisher's first year.

In addition, Farragut also had a solid blue star well in advance of Coach Sparks' arrival. It was for at least one year in

late '60's or early '70's, and it was later changed to a blue "F" before it's reintroduction in '77.

You are more positive about OR than OR is. We think we need a new coach!

You don't need a new coach. Coach Gaddis is an excellent coach. I know. I played for him at Farragut. OR's problem tonight was simply that it was their third tough rivalry game in a row. That takes it out of you mentally and physically and it results in mistakes.

Yep. Way too many mistakes tonight. Just saw where we gained 400 yards, and held y'all to 13 first downs, which isn't a whole lot. Our offense is showing improvement, but we made way too many mistakes tonight. You aren't going to be a decent team with the mistakes we had tonight.

Sorry folks, but OR looked like crap tonight and it turns out that we were very lucky that DB threw the football inside their own 10 yard line. As for who we should of hired as a head coach when he was practically begging us to hire him....Gary Rankin. I wonder if he'd of produced state championships here at the Ridge. I just am not good at sugar coating the fact that we have the talent to win but we are unable to get it done on the field or the sidelines.

    • I believe that was last year. I was interested in the Jones vs Baker comment, so I went back and looked at GC. I am not a fan of either nor am I a baseball guru. This looks like to me the duel was not close and if the errors would not have been made Eagleville would have won. I assume you are a little biased. I do think your mph for Jeffcoat and Baker must be from last year.  Baker-85 pitches 67 strikes. 5.2 innings, 5H, 1BB, 0ER and 7K's. 3 errors  Jones- 78 pitches 37 strikes. 4 innings, 2H, 5BB, 0ER and 1K. 1 error   Adams and the UH kid are really good as well. What about South Pitt and Oakdale? I heard they have some good ones.
    • I hate this for all the kids in the program and fans alike. I can't recall of anything like this before in my lifetime but I'm sure it isn't a first. After criminal investigations are complete and the TSSAA looks into this the program it will be facing Nuclear Winter for some time to come. It's always the innocent left behind that end up paying the price for something someone else has done. I'm sure the transfer portal will be very active in Clinton over the summer months. How could you find a good coach worth his salt that would take on a situation like this not knowing what will happen.
    • I’ve seen Jeffcoat in person twice and he was 84-87 both times and the one time I saw Baker he was low 80’s, he actually got out dueled by Jones from ER in that outing.
