Many people have opinions on this matter. Who really knows what is going on and can tell me what are their specific stats on these kickers/punters for the 2002 season. How many fieldgoals/PATs attempted and how many were successful. What was their kick-off percentage in the endzone and average starting point after a kick-off. Any fieldgoals/PATs that were the difference in a tight ballgame (who was/is the biggest factor for their team and it's success). What were the punting averages (gross and net average). How many punts went were pinned inside the 20 yard line. I know some individual highlights on these guys are from last year or the year(s) before. This award is for this year and to put anything from previous years into the mix is wrong. If it is included, then it is not a 2002 Mr. Football award. I also think that the entire season must be considered for the brentwood boys could show their best stuff in a championship game (I don't know when the award is actually given out). Everything that comes out of this vote will set the precedence for future voting and could make this award a joke, so do it right. Kickers have been viewed as partial players long enough, the pressure to wait on the sidelines to go out and produce a game winning/saving kick/punter is unbelievable. Most great coaches at any level will tell that the kicking game is probably the most important part of the game due to it quite often being the difference in the game. Good luck to all three.

MY HONEST OPINION IS THAT IT ALL COMES DOWN TO WHO YOU PLAY FOR AND WHERE YOUR LOCATION IS. ANDY BAILY MAY NOT HAVE GOTTEN THE CHANCE TO KICK ALOT OF FIELD GOALS BECAUSE OF PUNTING SITUATIONS OR BECAUSE THEY SCORED. UNDER PRESSURE IS THE TRUE TEST OF A KICKERS ABILITY FOR INSTANCE ANDY KICKED A 53 YARDER WITH 6 SECONDS LEFT IN A BALLGAME DOWN 2. I BELEIVE THE TRUE REWARD IS THE OPERTUNITY TO KICK SOMEWHERE ON SATURDAYS AND IN ANDYS CASE SOMEWHERE BIG. GOOD LUCK TO ALL KICKERS IN THE FUTURE WHERE EVER THEY MAY BE.

There seems to be a great number of big time kickers across the state this year. What colleges are recruiting these guys. I hope U.T. is because they have struggled in the kicking game this year. I hope one of these guys don't come back and beat the Vols someday.

A kicker to watch in the future is Logan O'Conner Ian's brother who is in the 8 th. grade. He is already putting kick offs inside the 10 and if I am not mistaken he hasn't missed an extra point all season.

it'll be public soon enough, where Bailey is headed to college. (he's chosen) And as far as comparisons go, national rankings are nice, but what really matters is the trajectory of kicks, hang time, operation time (punting), and whether or not the kid used a block (1 or 2") in high school. Makes a huge difference. I know Vaughn used a 2" block vs. Bailey and a 1" block. Kickoffs in the endzone mean nothing to a college coach UNLESS...they have 3.7+ second hang time. Just to say you put it in the endzone doesn't mean you're comparing apples to apples. That's where Bailey seperates himself. Likewise with punts. 50something from Bliss is nice, but 42 with 4.8 hang is unreturnable. That's Andy in a nutshell.

For the past three weeks, I have been wondering what school you were from, now I know. You must be from Halls, or else you are a big fan of their's. Is there a chance that Central would try to recruit the younger O'Connor to Central? I have heard many good things about Ian O'Connor, from his kicking talents to his academics to his civic work. Must be quite a fine young man that is being noticed for an outstanding season. Best of luck to him on Dec. 2nd.
