Upperman vs Red Bank Round 1

Recommended Posts

It's hard to believe RB is a mediocre 3a team. They have had some great teams.

I agree, seems to have happened to all the inner chat schools since the opening of ERidge,Ehamilton, and Signal. This game scares me, sorta like Pearlcohn Va Smith in 2011.....hope not though. Edited by UpperCumberlandMan

I know some that graduated from there in the 70s

Yeah East Ridge has been open since at least the mid '60's.

The opening of East Hamilton & Signal Point may have taken students away from them though I guess?...Moving kids around to Sale Creek, Hixson & Soddy Daisy may have happened too.

Wasn't Red Bank 5A when they won the state with Gerald Riggs Jr. several years ago?

I know they were 5A at one time because Cookeville played in a region with them after the old 7AAA broke up.

Just hard to imagine that big of a drop in class when Hamilton County is still growing as a whole.

Chattanooga- too many schools. IMO one problem with budget issues. Hurts us in football come playoff time.

Yeah, signal pulled kids away from red bank at first and it hurt red bank. Red bank is not the most desirable area to live in now either.

East Hamilton pulled kids away from ooltewah at first and overcrowded east ham. They changed the zones and put a bunch of kids back in ooltewah and hurt east ham.

Several schools were 5a and are now 4a or 3a (tyner, brained). The bigger schools represent the largest growing areas.

Some of the rural counties build these massive schools and just have a larger pool of athletes to choose from. For example, I'm from East Hamilton, our school is a combo middle/high school. We traveled to Stone last week and that building was twice the size of ours. I assume they built that massive place to account for growth in the area. Hamilton county would rather build 3 smaller schools over the course of the growth for some reason.

    • Best-of-three sectional series vs East Robertson at home starting Wednesday.  They put us out last year at this point.  Go Pirates!!
    • I don't believe they have anyone that is surbers caliber but a decent staff overall.
    • Richland plays at McKenzie on Wed.  Should be a good series.  Does Richland have good pitching?
    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
